I've not camped along 328, but back in 2005 I did take it from 64 to Rowe Well Road. It is a gravel road, with more sand than gravel in a few places, and somewhat narrow, but IIRC two vehicles can pass with care in most places. It is lightly to moderately forested along the stretch I traveled. The grades from 64 to just short of Rowe Well Road are very minor, but once it nears Row Well Road there are a bunch of grades and curves because of washes, intersections, the railroad, etc. I haven't been west of there so can't comment further from personal experience. A quick look at the map shows that a few miles west the forest gives way to more open desert, and the road looks to become sandy.
