Texans bound for Grand Canyon and Yosemite

Hi gang,
Well the trip last summer to Taos, Breckenridge, CO and Yellowstone went soooooh well we are ready to try a different course this time. We need help!!!! We want to leave Austin, TX and see the Grand Canyon then Monterey, CA then Yosemite, then Moab Desert, UT then 4 corners and Mesa Verde before heading back. We're having trouble finding RV parks that can accommodate a 34' AS with full hookups esp around Yosemite and around the Grand Canyon. Any advice based on your experiences would be greatly appreciated. BTW, we loved Tiger Run RV in Breckenridge, CO and Flagg Ranch, WY outside of Yellowstone. Thanks in advance. Dennis and Debbie

Hi Oxblood...I live in Texas and also San Francisco...I've made the trip you're considering several times...I suggest you come west either via Flagstaff or Phoenix and return the other...Grand Canyon is not to be missed...I avoided it for 60 years then last year saw it...wow...the park will handle your rig...on the south route don't miss Joseua Tree National Park...a very spiritual and beautiful place...lots of parks out here in Ca limit spaces to 30'...AAA has a camping book that lists all the great parks and the limits...a great trip in your future...good luck...joe...

Dennis and Debbie,
You won't have any problem finding room for your 34' at any of those places you mention. See my entries under Campgrounds of the West and Southwest for some ideas.

The RV Park inside the National Park on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon cam handle your rig. The Rv park itself is austere and offers few amenities besides water and electric, but man is it convenient. Give yourself two, full days (three nights) to see the canyon.

I recommend the KOA in Cortez, CO for your trip to Mesa Verde. It's a pristine RV park with great views that is a convenient place from which to Visit Telluride as well as Mesa Verde. Give yourself three, full days (four nights).
Moab has several good choices.

Have a great trip!
