1949 Vagabond...wish I had a place for it!

This trailer is practically around the corner from me. It's been outside for three years after many years in a barn and the current owner didn't realize the extent of the interior water damage. The skin is nice and the interior is 99% intact. I hate to see it sit there and deteriorate further.

Lew - As best I could measure without a tape it's 26 or 27. Interestingly, NO toilet or shower and I think that is the original configuration. The two closets are too small to have contained a head and they both still have original rods in place...I guess this length was probably a short trailer for Vagabond based on the other survivors one can find. It still has a huge open area in front for the coach and dining table! The shorter length does make it more towable than those long, long trailers but not being self-contained would seem to limit its appeal, but maybe not in 1949.

They didn't have toilets because it was illegal to transport human waste from state to state in the 1940s.

The owner wants $6k, but I think I may have dissuaded him from that amount given the need for someone to do entire rebuild based on the interior water damage...probably $3K to drive it home. No idea if it's worth that.

These were designed and built to live in and not to pull all over the country as a camp trailer. Virtually all trailer parks had rest rooms and showers that the folks that lived in these would utilize .
When I was born my folks lived in a trailer about this size that had no toilet or shower, when they bought a new "New Moon" with a toilet and a shower ,to replace it , they thought they were in hog heaven .

Vagabond Coach Mfg. Co. of New Hudson, Michigan made a helluva high quality trailer, built with a welded steel tubular frame onto which the aluminum is sheet metal screwed. I've owned several, including a '53 Vagabond 35' and a '53 Vagabond 41' -- however, the Vagabond model 19' is the holy grail, I believe. Recently (9/15) a nicely restored '52 Vagabond 19' went at auction for under $30K. <http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/feature-lots.cfm?SaleCode=AF15&ID=r0310>

I bet it is still great. I have great memories from my short stay, 1950 - 52. Then we moved to Ca....via Rte 66....towing a 26' trailer. I was 14.
