Our solution to the "Thin bed cushions" thing

We knew, when we bought it, that we would be looking for a way to get a bit more "loft" in the cushions for sleeping.

After considering our options we knew that we did not want anything that took up too much storage space so, after an afternoon at REI, we settled on three Thermarest pads with 1 1/2" loft.

Given the shape of the bed, we went with one 77" (Large) pad and two 66" (Women's) pads. The large is 25" wide and the Women's pads are 20".

We tried them both on top and under the cushions. A bit too much movement on top, but under the cushions works well. As for comfort, the added 1 1/2" is exactly what we were looking for.

Each pads rolls up and fits into small stuff sacks. Given the piano hinges on the folding bed platforms, we will add a thin canvas (or similar) drop cloth to protect the bottoms of the pads.

Ignore the egg crate pads in the last photo. They are old backpacking pads that I tried out. They didn't work out well.

As an added bonus, we can use these for evenings sleeping in the attached tent(s).

Great idea!
Therma-Rest makes great products. I wouldn't be without one while tent camping.

Ditto, I slept on one all last week in the BWCA. Had mine for 7 or 8 years in rough conditions. No punctures or leaks.

We went the less convenient route with thick memory foam plus mattress topper cut to shape and store it all with bedding and pillows in the xmas tree storage bag outside the camper during the day. Easy enough to get in and out and more comfortable than our home bed! A little more work and storage requirement than your setup but it's another good option. Click image for larger version
