Can I paint Tambour?
Looking to either replace Tambour or paint it. It is all in perfect condition - is painting it an option?

I have seen it painted successfully. Not sure what kind of paint was used but it did look great.

Our tambour is painted and clear coated. I have seen others who used spray paint and it looked superior compared to mine. Look for the thread "Costalotta from start to finish".

I painted some tambour in my trailer using Krylon spray paint. It is still holding up well - but is on a tambour that I don't use often. Here's my previous post with pictures:

Please let us know if you paint yours, what you use and how it turns out!

I saw a trailer with spray painted aluminum. I was impressed.

Krylon
I have used Krylon Fusion on our tambour doors and have been pleased with the results. On our trailer, there are a few types of tambour used in the doors.
In the bathroom, kitchen, and forward storage over the gaucho, the tambour is plastic and takes the paint very well. The larger tambour doors in other parts of the trailer have a vinyl-like face and seem to fall into two types: one with square-edged slats and one with angled-edge slats.
The tambour with the angled-edge slats seems to be made with a fiber board and vinyl facing that does not cover the edges. Those edges don't take the paint very well, and if I were to paint them again, I would try using a primer such as Kilz to seal the edges and would then paint with the Krylon. The square-edge slats can be painted as they are.
If you are going to paint the doors in the trailer, use lots of drop cloths because there will be a LOT of overspray that travels all over. I wear a good cartridge respirator as well. Good luck with the project.

Thanks Steve, We used Krylon Fusion also. I removed the tambours to paint them. It has been 2yrs and they look like I did them yesterday.

Either "Out of Doors Mart" or "Vintage Trailer Supply" had 4'x8' sheets of it. I can't remember which.
