Adventures exist... Go Find Them

The Western United States includes more recreation if you take the time to find it. Your imagination is your only limited resource and it takes little imagination to find something to your liking.

-Fishing... anything with clear water moving towards Sea Level and does not freeze to the bottom during the winter has fishing possibilities. The Internet has the native trout populations terrified that you can now find their hide outs.

-Hot Springs... the questions to ask is where, not How Hot? Some are fast flowing hot springs open to the public as swimming pools and just boiling yourself into a lobster red. Some we have visited are... much like your trailer's black tank and rather disgusting... with people slopping around in the much and bubbles. Many are free, if you can find it. Some has a ski resort built on or near it. Glenwood Springs, Colorado has so many parked vehicles near the commercial springs, you might want to go somewhere else if you are not patient. There are books by the United States Geological Survey that list every single know Hot to mildly Warm Spring to be found in the entire USA.

-National Parks... each has a personality of its own. They are selected and developed so anyone in the World can vist and... complain about the crowded conditions. Avoid High Season, or just take your time and follow the direction of the line moving from on point to the next. Another option to to visit the 'Outside of the National Parks'. The BLM or National Forest public lands that provide comfort and isolation from the crowds but a great view of the sides of the National Park sites that those visitors... cannot see. My kind of National Park camping!

-Wilderness Areas... are put aside by individuals who want it to stay primitive. Well, these areas are primitive as you could not afford to put a road into these areas. It is convenient to designate an area as Primitive or Wilderness, but it would be that even had it no name at all. These areas are a vast majority of public lands of the West. Alaska... beats everyone in this department.

-Lakes and Rivers... are where ever you find a Mountain Range. You see snow in the mountains, go towards them and you will find the streams, rivers and lakes. Rather simple idea, but works. Many towns are at the base of a tall peak with snow on top. It did not take a genius to figure that out, did it?

Rock Hounds... look under your flip flops. You just started a lifetime building a rock garden, one boulder at a time. There is no library to hold all of the books about Agates to Zebra Stones. There are more rocks below your feet to discover. Many have absolutely no value until taken home and placed on your fireplace mantle. Then it becomes an... oddity. Friends will look and stare at it for hours and too embarrassed to ask... "what is that?" So do as I do, call it Leaverite. It is rare and precious to those who know a rock from Leaverite.

Ghost Towns... they are everywhere in the mountains. Each mountain that had one speck of gold has a Ghost Town somewhere near by. Another life time of finding those places just in a couple mining states. Most look like a tornado came through several times and a glacier moved over it once... but it has its story to tell. I just look at the pictures in a book and glad I do not own any of it.

There are so many options out there, you will never live long enough to do two or three very well. So... do not try. Mix it up a bit and be content. Better yet. Start your own Adventure with one of these subjects in mind. Find those others who are willing to step off the beaten path and wonder why anyone would drive so far to visit an entire city for a big mouse and a duck? Of course... this is a tease, those places are where the more sophisticated among us visit.

Can't wait until we can visit CO in our AS

It will be a while yet before we can take a trip to CO, but in the meantime, there are adventures to be found here in FL too, if you take the time to explore and fine them.
