Spiral thing for Tambour doors

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you get the tambor on the spiral holder?

It appears that your overheads have been modified. The wood has been added to make shelves and the rails and frame for the tambour doors have been removed.

This is probably not relevant but my service manual for my 1976 trailer says the door and the tracks are removed and installed as one unit. Once they're installed the track retaining screws are reinstalled.

What I interpret from reading that is this: I'd remove both tracks, take the tracks out of the cabinet, install the door onto the tracks, angle the tracks and door as one piece back inside the cabinet, then pull the tracks into place and install the track retaining screws.

All I have are spirals, no tracks...spirals just attached with a screw! I think I'll do it like the DIY video, with a spring rod and rail.

The spirals are the tracks.

But you can only put the tambour in them when they are out of the cabinet. Then the two spirals, with the tambour between them, are put back into the cabinet where the spirals are secured in place with screws.

Looking more closely at your picture, since your front frames have been modified, there is no place for the tamours to roll down on the outside. Maybe another kind of door is in order. Trying to retrofit tambour into modified cabinets could get tricky.

I think, not sure, that someone just attached a mid-rail so that nothing would fall out. If I take that off, then is it a normal looking cabinet (except no tambour door)?

Splitrock, I don't think the horizontal piece is the only part that isn't original. If you look at Overlander63's pic of the outside of the cabinets, you see that the vertical part is curved and made of aluminum with an insert of dark wood veneer, and that the bottom ledge where the tambour rests is also made of an aluminum extrusion with fake wood accents.

Airstream is big on making lightweight, unique framing elements for their cabinetry. The framing in your picture looks like conventional wood, not typical Airstream construction. The fact that the wood frame cuts off the tambour spiral in mid track would also suggest that this is an after market alteration.

If you want it to be back the way it was, you'll probably need to find tambours with tracks and also original face frame components.

I thought about that. When I click on the OP's picture twice it opens in a new window in a larger format. In the larger picture I can see the center rail is added to the outside of the faceframe. I can see the fasteners. The reason I believe the cabinet is original equipment, is behind the tambour track the center partition still has a segment of the original vinyl overlay behind the spiral. No rebuilder would take pains to preserve that.

Even if it's not the original faceframe, the tambour will work if it's the correct size. The tambour won't know even where it's at if it fits in it's track and can go up and down.

I am having trouble getting the spiral ring for the tambour doors under the sink to come out. I don't see any screws. Do I have to remove the trim??? and are there rivets behind it??? HELP!!!!!!!
