We have a loss of power in our 25FB 50 amp AS.
This is kind of critical - we live in Texas and our Home AC failed so we moved into the AS until we can get the Home AC repaired or replaced.
We have a 30 amp power source installed by a master electrician that we have used for several years with out fail using a dog bone to plug our 50 amp cord into.
After the home failure last eve I turned on the front AC and we moved in to the AS. all was well for about an hour then we loss 120 power.
All of the circuit breakers have been checked
The inverter fan is running but it does not appear to be charging the batteries however the LED lights work.

Question - is this an inverter failure? and how do I check.

That shouldn't be an inverter failure as your inverter is not in use when you are connected to shore power.

You may want to ensure the inverter isnt on and if it isn't turn it on to see if your lower returns temporarily.

Is the AC still running?

If so what that likely means is you lost power to one of your bus bars. If that is the case I would think the dog bone connector or your 50 amp cord are the likely culprits. Basically one of the hot lines is not being powered.

AC is off, I my electrician friend coming over, I will have him start on the connectors to see if that is the problem and hopefully rule that out or confirm that is the problem.

Hi

Is the fan you hear the inverter fan or the converter fan? Inverter makes 120V out of 12V battery juice. Converter turns 120V *into* 12V.

I'd check the breaker on the 30A shore power outlet on the home. It's pretty easy to accidentally go over 30A with a 50A trailer ....

We keep a dirt cheap outlet checker plugged into one outlet on our trailer at all times. It quickly tells you if there is 120V in the trailer. We also have a display on the hard wired EMS that tells you if there is 120V on the shore power input. Between them, they make troubleshooting something like this pretty quick ....

If you don't have a setup like this, a couple quick checks with a multimeter will do the same thing. Check at an outlet. Then at the bus bar in the breaker panel, next on the output side of the shore power cord, and finally at the socket on the power post. ( order really doesn't matter, but that's how most folks do it ...).

Good advice - it was a burned wire at the box. Electrician replaced it and everything works - hopefully we have no more problems and can the the house AC repaired or replaced next week.

Hi

Did he say why the wire burned? This sort of thing could happen several ways:

1) one end of the other wasn't screwed down tight. It happens, but not usually with a pro doing the work.

2) wire was under size for the load. This gets into the "yikes" category.

3) wire was correct but appears to have been hit by to much current. This immediately should trigger a "why????" question and a few further things to look into ....

Since your are depending on this to stay sane ( or at least to keep you our of a hotel

) your knowing a bit more about the repair *might* be a good idea.

We are getting a new panel installed in a couple of weeks. Thank you for raising the issue - and also our electrical friend for thinking about it and recommending it. His electrical company will make the upgrade asap.
