Greetings from Connecticut

Hello all, I'm happy to be in this forum to learn about Airstreams - especially the areas of construction and repair, maintenance, and purchasing.
My wife and I have been really intrigued with AS's for several years now. We think we'll pursue something previously owned in the 19ft- 21ft range once the buying frenzy settles down.
I'd love to completely renovate an older unit but don't have the time or talent. I'm amazed and inspired by some of the ground up refurbishments and custom interiors that I've seen.

best regards,
Bodgerist

Welcome to the neighborhood. Both our trailers are 22’ ball to bumper. So, 20’ interior is fine for us. A vintage Trade Wind would be nice at 24’, but we’re comfy. Take your time, hit a few rallies so you can see an assortment. Good luck and let us know.

Hello from Sterling (the sticks on the RI border)…like you, I’m looking. My best advice is to figure out your needs and wants so you don’t waste time looking at trailers that won’t work for you. It’s really difficult to find anything in New England at all, so you also might want to think about how far you are willing to travel to purchase. Read the forums and you will learn an an incredible amount. Prices are really out of control right now, so patience is a virtue. Beware of scams…they are everywhere. Best wishes and I hope you find something soon.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us. You have found the right place for all things Airstream.

Hi

Welcome !!!!

Before you zero in on any one trailer go spend some time looking at various models. There are a lot of *fit* issues that only make sense when you see them in person. Figure on spending a day at at least one dealer to see this and see that. You may find that you have already zeroed in on the right model. You may find that you have a list of three models that all could work out. Models don't change a lot year to year. A 2016 us still pretty close to a 2021.

Shopping for used RV's right now is a bit insane. Prices are very high and supply is very short. If you do find a unit that is right for you, it's likely to sell fast. You very much want to be able to move on the deal quickly. Already knowing that this or that *is* what you want will make things go faster.

Price wise, it it a bit unclear what things are actually selling for. One sees a lot of folks looking for current MSRP on used Airstreams. Given that the price goes up every year *and* that a 10% discount off MSRP is common ..... those are pretty steep asking prices. Again, it is unclear if folks are getting their asking price. In the home market, people doing the same sort of thing *are* getting what they ask for.

Given how the RV industry in general is doing, best guess is that none of this will calm down before mid winter. Indeed there are some pretty good articles out there suggesting it could easily last another year or two. I'm not sure I agree with the "or two" part of that. They could be correct.

Welcome to the forum . . . from about 30 miles south of you . . . a short ride across the New London to Orient Point "Cross Sound" ferry.

Our 2014 Flying Cloud 20' with front bed, is a very popular model, and has the best galley in the Airstream line-up below 25' IMO. There is a dedicated "20-footers" thread linked just below -- but please be cautioned that this is long and detailed thread, with both good advice . . . and terrible humor IMO!

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f54...rs-127845.html

In that thread in April, there was a fairly good discussion about selling prices, starting with Post #3153. [hot link in blue] Generally speaking the final sale prices discussed were in the neighborhood of $55,000, plus or minus IMO.

Patrick Botticelli, at Colonial Airstream in New Jersey, has a YouTube video reviewing our model. I will post the correct video in the next post, I can't find it right now, within the 10-minute edit window.

Please fee free to reply, in that 20-footer thread, with any questions.

Good luck with your search for the best model for the two of you!

Happy trails,

Peter

PS -- Good overview comments from Uncle Bob, and everyone else in the previous posts, above how crazy the marketplace is at this time IMO.

Welcome to the forum from PA!

As was mentioned, if you could attend a rally, as a guest, held in your area you would be able to see all kinds of AS and get input from fellow owners.

We found our first AS in the Air Forums Classified section. It is a great source to check on a regular basis. But be prepared to move quickly as they are often sold with days, if not hours.

Happy hunting!

Greetings from way out west in Colorado: We enjoy the vintage Airstream hobby. Yep, more fixing needed, but less cost and it is still an Airstream. Here is a photo of my 75 Overlander 27' twin bed, rear bath Airstream. It is quite comfortable for us and tows nicely. Airstream trailers last a long time.
