Microwave Replacement

Hello, Has anyone identified a replacement for the Tappan microwave in the 2009 27fb Classic?

Ours bit the dust recently and we'd like to replace it. I've had no luck finding one of similar dimensions.

Unfortunately we have the same issue in our 2008 27FB Safari. We have done considerable searching for a replacement to no avail. Hopefully someone will have the solution. Thanks for posting.

I have a 2008 27FB and went through this last year. If yours is configured the same as mine, look in the microwave compartment when the drawer is pulled out. On the top of the space (which is the underside of the cabinet above it), there is a small piece of wood screwed in. This was making the space too small for a microwave to slide in. It's held in place by two screws and easily removed.

Once removed, I was able to get a microwave to fit. I tried several models while the piece of wood was still there and they were all a bust. However, with it removed, I went to Best Buy and purchased the .7 CU FT Isignia compact microwave, which fit beautifully.

Here's the info from the Best Buy site:

Model: NS-7CM6-BK
SKU: 2835024

It fits well and actually has less of a tendency to bounce around than the original Tappan microwave. I used the existing "holes" that were drilled for the feet of the microwave and added my own double-stick velcro tape.

My door/cabinet was starting to not latch as well (this was with the prior microwave) so I also added a baby-latch strap. It clicks in to keep the drawer from sliding out when I'm towing.

FYI... Same challenge on our 08 classic 27FB. I suspect what you will find is that the part (ours is metal not wood) you must remove to make this microwave fit is the strike plate for the drawer latch. Removing this piece means the drawer will no longer latch for travel. We have tied the drawer closed with a bungee for travel, but still looking for a microwave with acceptable dimensions. It needs to be something like 9.8 inches high — I plan to make an exact measurement next trip.

Finally got out to measure the microwave drawer... The maximum height of a microwave must be be 9 5/8 inches to allow the stock drawer latch to function and to allow the microwave to slide under the latch mechanism. We haven't found a microwave that size yet... Would love to know if anybody has found one.

BTW the drawer can accommodate an oven that is no more than 13 1/2 inches front-to-back.

I see this kind of an old thread but here is what I did.
Our 2011 27' FB Microwave in the slide out drawer died.
I checked Airstream, approx. $300.00 to order a replacement.
I checked Amazon, bought a Comfee EM720PL-PM
It fit perfect, even the feet lined up with the counter bores in the Microwave drawer.
It works great! $70

I would appreciate if you would provide the height measurement from the shelf that the microwave sits on to the top edge of the door. I suspect this dimension may be different in my trailer since Airstream started using a different brand microwave about 2010. Thank you so much.

If you go on Amazon it gives the Microwave dimensions.
The distance from the slide-out Microwave drawer surface to the top edge of the drawer face is 11" on our 2011 27' FB.
I would think it is the same on your 2010.

Sort of related. I was looking at microwaves a few days ago and found several RV sized *convection* microwaves. Any real benefit to one of these vs a standard microwave?

A convection microwave uses microwave energy to heat and cook food plus a fan to circulate the heated air. Food cooks faster and browns more like a conventional oven than a simple microwave. The proof of a convection microwave ovens value is revealed when you cook a chicken. It’s dramatically better in a CMW oven. Now back to the original thread with apologies for the brief hijack...

+1, just to clarify; in convection mode, the microwave, uses microwaves to pre heat air, which is then blown around the food, allowing it to sear, cook and brown food, versus microwaving the food directly.

Remember, the microwave has a magnetic switch to shut the power off if the drawer is closed. (or at least mine does). It may be above the unit and requires a bit of space.
If mine was any larger I don't think the door would open.

I can't speak for other floorplans, but that switch in a 26U is under the drawer rather than above the microwave, so it shouldn't eat any of the available space between the floor of the drawer and the top of the interior of the cabinet.
