I got a nice acrylic one from V.T.S. and inexpensive, easy install from the inside! Now I don't have to worry about new cracks ( due to old plastic deterioration ) in the next cold spell. Also, I get great light inside.

My budget for parts is over for 2014... Maybe in the Spring.

Astrodomes and solar domes are available all over the country.

But, they are either fiberglass or single layered.

The fiberglass lets in brown light if any.

The single layer covers do indeed let light in, but most of them are available only in white.

Astrodomes and solar domes are also available in milk white and solar gray, and with a double layer of plastic that is a thermal barrier, since air is sealed within the two layers.

Bungled this job

What a mess. I screwed this up totally. It will work but it aint gonna be pretty.
I drilled the hole through the outside the rivets did not reach through to the brackets. Huh?
Not even close.

So I riveted them on from the inside, leaving the hinged bracket in place so I could reattach to the holder bracket in the trailer.
Seemed to work fine. I put vulkem on the rivets and inserted the washer.

Then, the LaDue (POS) lifter popped off the bracket...wouldn't you know it. I tried best as I could to hammer it back onto the sorta triangular section that holds it. Not working.

Well- (please hold all nasty comments here)--LOL
I used JB Weld to reattach the lifter to the hinged bracket.
Yeah I know...Now I am waiting for it to dry and see how it goes.
Also I have 6 small holes in the outer dome that I will have to fill with clear sealant.

Heading to the mountains this weekend, just hoping the screwed up Solardome will not blow off the roof.

If it stays on after a 4 hour drive I will consider it a victory. I could not open the old one so I wont even try to open this one. Just want to enjoy the lack of leaking and the
look of a nice new one on the roof.

Somedays it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

The dome stayed tight on our trip. Thanks to Lewster the RV pro fromFlorida who had suggested 3m tape to hold it down. It gave me extra confidence.
One of the lifters does work and will, open the vent but I will not use it.
We like the clear view, especially of the moon. My old one was white translucent.

We just learned the lesson (we should have known) if don't leave it open if storm is coming. Ripped off and laying in driveway. Arg!

That's stinks.
On today's drive home from Tennessee, a hawk flew out of trees on a two lane country road and went right into my windshield. Then over the truck into the trailer.
Thankfully no damage. Scary moment
