Here's the deal and all I know. 77 AS 27 feet. All appliances work and are orig A/C unknown as owner has never tried to use it. New tires and batt. All the bits seem to be there inside. Skin looks good (To the untrained eye.) Owner is a family friend and is honest in earlier deals. (Old military vehicles.) Price $6,500. What do you think?

Thank you Van. I noticed your tow vehicle. I have a 2002 F-150 Fx4 w/ 5.7. Will that tow the above trailer? Will I need wieght dist etc. hitches or will a factory class III do?

Ah, now we get to the contentious questions. There are a number of opinions about this as i am sure you will find out in the next few days as you reread this thread.

At the very least, if your going to tow a 27' trailer with a F-150 you will want weight dist and anti sway.

Thats a lot of trailer for a F-150. You should certainly have the power to tow it but you are going to be at the very upper limits of your max tow rating i am thinking. My previous truck was a 2001 F-150 and iirc, its tow rating was about 6800lbs. Do you think that once you load up your trailer with gear, water, etc and your truck with fuel, gear and people you are going to be under that max rating?

To be honest, most people on this forum are going to tell you that for safetys sake you should have a 3/4 ton truck like a F-250. Then again i have talked to folks who have towed trailers the size of your with a F-150 and been perfectly happy and content with it. One was an old codger from the WBCCI that was a a forum rally on the coast last fall.

If i was in your shoes i would want a F-250. If getting a different tow vehicle was out of the question i would certainly get weight dist and ant-sway bars. Then i would be keeping a close eye on my load weight.

hi- just wanted to pass on an AS for sale in Niwot, Colorado that I heard about yesterday. Older gentleman (80-ish) just bought an '03 Classic, wants to sell his "like new" 85 Excella 31'. He said it has new tires,new dometic fridge, new expensive carpeting, much other new stuff. Said body has virtually NO dents or scratches, has absolutely NOTHING wrong with it, wants about $17k. Has rear double bed, mid-bath. Anyway, pm me if interested and I'll pass on his name and number. Just trying to help him out, it's of no financial interest to me. -tim

Unless you can confirm that AC, furnace, and H2O heater work, the price is a bit high for a 77' 27.' When the seller tells me he's never tried the appliances, I assume they do not work and will have to be replaced. So, we back out the replacement cost of these systems. How's the awning? If it is unservicable, we back out the replacement cost for it as well. Assuming good awning and considering new tires, I'd say you're describing a $4,500 purchase. You can ratchet the offer up incrementally as you confirm good AC, good furnace, good H2O heater, good converter, no H2O leaks, good drapes, etc.

P.S. Sorry, but your truck really isn't suitable for this trailer. The 77' 27' is heavier than those built in the 60s. There are at least half a dozen great threads about tow vehicles on these forums, so I won't repeat.
