Ordered filters for my LY 30 marquis 5000 genset only to discover the Onan 140-1894 air cleaner housing was gone. Dealer who sold it too me as is told me to check the genset..for good reason. I have not been able to locate a replacement housing new or used anywhere apparently discontinued by Onan. Anyone have any suggestions for anchoring the air filter?
I'd try a generator repair shop. I was in the local Onan dealer a couple weeks ago picking up an extended oil filter, plugs, air cleaner, and fuel filter for out Marquis 5000. They had a nice looking (one of those "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" kinda things...) boneyard out back.
If you can't find a source, let me know and I can swing by in the next couple weeks.
The missing air filter cover was an elaborate one with lever to switch air intake from heated to cool. Since I only use the gen set in warm weather I went to McGuckin's Hardware in Boulder, probably the best hardware store in the country, and found a large washer that covered the filter end than added a smaller one for the 14-20 3 1/2" bolt. I chose one that was 4 1/2" and they swaged a knob on one end so I can replace the filter by hand.
Thanks for your offer to help. That heat down there must be getting impossible for you to offer to drive all the way to Denver area to assist, but thanks anyway.

Funny guy..
Glad you figured out a solution.
It has been hot. How hot you ask?
So hot...
Its been so hot... the lowest temp on our oven is 130F...
So we turned it on and climbed in...
That said, have you figured out a way to change the rear spark plug without pulling/dropping the Genset?
Changing the plugs is my next project and was going to be my next question. Without an owners manual and no instructions how to do this I am looking for the same answer. Surely the genset shouldn't have to be dropped to change a plug. Anyone have the solution?
Depending on the model, especially the 4000, they tip down. Place a floor jack or a scissor jack from your car under the outer edge. There are two bolts that release the generator and let the outer edge drop down. It will give you access to the rear plug.
