1996 LY30 - Replacing Kitchen Countertop

Our formica topped counter has seen too many hot/cold cycles here in the desert, and delaminated.

Anyone replaced the entire counter with Corian, or ???

I'm thinking of pulling the stove, sink, hardware, and taking the entire counter top to a commercial kitchen countertop shop place to build new one - maybe with a small edge on the "right" to keep things on the counter.

Maybe even change-out the dinette table as well - would be nice to keep them matching.

Pics?

TIA.

I was thinking of doing the same with my 92 LY. Seems like any local counter top company should be able to reproduce it in the materials you wanting using the original top as a model. Personally I don't see any way to replace the counter top without removing it first, so why not do it before hand and use it as a template. I'd take good measurements while it's still in place just in case it gets damaged during the removal process. Might want to consider replacing the table top with the same material just to keep things looking matched.

My plan is to use a Corian type material.

What material did you use for the counter tops? Looks great!

I did it two weeks ago... I used my existing top mount sink and under mounted it using a Baltic birch plywood backer to eliminate the chance of it falling through like other have mentioned. I routed a 1/4” groove for the sink to seat, then placed the Corian down on top leaving a 1/4” edge on all sides to support the insert. I used my existing counter as the template. I also built up the front edge to 1 1/4” not the standard 1 1/2...I thought it would look nicer matching up the the cooktop front edge. I was going to use Corian on the dinette as well though decided against it due to the weight sitting on the pedestal. ...it is very heavy compared to plywood & Formica. Just under $500 for all materials including the wood and Formica for dinette. I’m happy with the way it turned out.
