This chart is the Airstream VIN decoding, it is not 100% accurate for mine, but close enough

I have a 1981 Excella. Where did you find the RPO label on your unit?

You should be able to drive it off your VIN.

The RPO codes being discussed here are the GM codes, not Airstream. At least that's how it appears to me.
With my 1999 Suburban the codes are on a sticker on the inside of the glove box.

Considering all the mechanical components on a classic are from the chassis supplier, and all the Argosy/Classics apart from the 370/360 are on GM chassis, and nothing to do with the 'aluminum box' that Airstream bolt onto the chassis, the RPO gives all the relevant data.
All the Airstream VIN does is confirm the length, the build year, and where the bathroom and beds are located.
In my experience for the aluminum bodied motorhomes, the GM VIN is also used for registration, insurance and even export.

RPO is for GM components
I agree RPO is for GM components. I just can't find the label on my rig. Where have others found the RPO label?

Have you tried putting your chassis VIN into the GM decoder to see what it brings up? There are a lot of sites out there with information, like this one: https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Chevrolet

I tried the links..
Thanks for all of the advice. I tried the links in this thread with no luck. I quit when they want you to pay for a subscription. This last link was basically a CARFAX report. I'm looking for details about the GM components in my vehicle. EI: what brakes are in it, what transmission, what axle? As examples. That information is usually on the RPO Label. I'm about to start tearing the interior apart. Maybe I'll find the label, or not like "dadstoy". It's not a show stopper.

I would have thought you have the JB9 (discs all round) brake setup, the 16.5 wheel units have the JB8 disc/drum combination.
