Ohio Burners?
Just noticed there is another Buckeye signed up. We are from Columbus. It appears from the map we have a kindred spirit near Dayton. Who might that be???
Thought we should check when you might be travelling.

You might look at the new Wal-Mart at the east 80 exit in Fernley for a join up place. Opened this spring. New Lowes next to it.
The Best Western is across the street from the Wal-mart, that's E Newlands drive. Don't remember there being much of a park there, but wasn't looking for one while I was doing the structural inspections at Wal-Mart. E Newlands street is mostly wide open. Truck stop across 80 there would have water. Amazon.com,McDonalds,JackintheBox,ScholarisFoodSto re,SportsBar,Casino,KragenAuto,TireRepair in the same blocks. Propane down the street a mile or so at Chevron, also supposed to be propane at the truck stop.

BM administration uses a couple channels, we don't want to step on them. Some research necessary.

Not yet, but they are at the high level now -$295. Hoping someone had an extra that they would sell for what they paid. Tight budget here

Not a bad idea. I had to bite the bullet and go 295. Good luck. Hope to see you there. Ron

I've almost got my trailer, and plan to head out to the Playa early. One minor issue is power...
We're based in the UK, the trailer will be kept in Nevada or California after the event, or if we're not adventuring across the States, but we wont have enough time to install the solar cells, etc before we hit BM.
Being mindful that my lady will have some power needs - her first time out to BM, and I don't particularly want to get a generator - too loud, weight, etc, I am not sure how to go on this dilemma.
The trailer is being transported over by a friend, and it will be delivered to me in the desert!
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Yoms
P.S. There are still some cheap tickets about, through some of the regional discussion lists. People always drop out closer to the event, and sell their tickets at cost price. Someone even offered 2 purchased at the lowest tier yesterday.

Whoa! Ask her nicely to outside and shake her wet head--it'll be dry quick!
Seriously, none of us can last the whole week on batteries, so there will be lots of generators running for a few hours during the day. The small Honda EU-2000s put out plenty of power to recharge a couple of Airstreams at a time. If you're parked close enough to me, I'd be pleased to let you charge up when I do. Others may be willing to share power, too.
But you're not going to find spare power for hair dryers and coffee makers unless someone's willing to share their EU-3000 and intend to run it most of the day!

Hey folks!
Great to see so many Airstreams going to BM. We are leaving from Fort Lauderdale Aug 14th, and I noticed someone from Miami on the map. Please shoot me (an email) offlist. We were hoping to be the longest drive, but someone beat us!!
Considering the theme, we figured the most American thing we could do is haul a 2-ton piece of fine post-war American engineering across the country at today's gas prices. Anyone seen "Damnation Alley"?
Gracias!

Here is what I found out about BM Admin
Burning Man: Preparation - 911 Service On-Playa.
This seems to indicate BM uses MURS only.
I have three or four Motorola's that do not work on the BM channels.

Despite the overcrowding on FRS channels, I think that's the route we'll take unless we have a significant number of attendees who have MURS radios.
Anyone have a MURS?

Just a note for first timers, again. Very few folks are let in the gate before midnite Sunday nite, there's no going out there early unless you are on the fence comittee or something, and they have to commute out of the site at night.
Burningman.com has a good primer MUST READ for first timers, on playa etiquette and general life safety issues (Seriously). Dump nothing on the playa. Have a MOOP can at the door. No one drives on the playa after you are parked unless you have already applied for and gotten a BM DMV sticker.
Since the event is in on Nevada BLM land, the BLM rangers enforce Nevada laws, quite strictly. I didn't neccessarily agree with the ranger wannabee tactics, but it is Nevada. It's not a given that BLM will grant the BM access in the future, depends on each year MOOP clean up.
Entrance Midnite Sunday: A lot of the U-Haul rentals will be going 45 on the road up from Wadsworth, their max speed per contract. Don't worry about it, the line at the gate will be a couple hours long anyway. The gate people search for stowaways.
Exodus: DON'T leave in day time, the line was 5 hours to the pavement. In over 100 degree heat. (Boy did I screw up, the radio kept saying going smooth, only an hour. Not much way to get out of the line then.)
Wait in line Couple hours in, couple hours out; best fill up before going up. Fernley has a couple of truck stops, both exits.
Unless you have a good "address" to meet up, don't plan on meeting anyone out there.

The trick here is to pack the night before you intend to leave and then pull out around 4:30 to 5:00 a.m. the next morning. There will still be lines but things will move along smartly. And, once you are outside the gate you can still find a place to pull over and snuzz if you need to, but you won't have to wait in line for 5 hours.
