1st annual BURNING MAN RALLY
Well it was only a matter of time…
It is time...
The First annual
AIRSTREAM FORUM
BURNING MAN RALLY
Where: Black rock City, Navada
When: Week leading up to Labor Day (09-01-08 to 09-07-08)or any part of the week.
Event Info: The Burning Man Project :: Welcome Home
Cost: The price of a Burning Man ticket (ticket sales open 01-16-08, on-line only)
Never been to Burning Man
Curious about the Burning Man Festival
Don't know what the Burning Man Festival is
Daunted at the thought of going it alone
This is Air Forum member's opportunity to hang with experienced Airstream burners.
This will be a loose grouping of like minded Airstreamers.
At this stage no Pot Lucks or organized events are scheduled.
But, "what is Burning man", Trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what RED looks like to someone who is blind.
But your best bet will be to visit the Burning Man web site at: The Burning Man Project :: Welcome Home
This event is not for everyone
Experienced forum burners please chime in.
Michael

Always.
Don't leave home without it.
I may be interested in the rally.
I'll keep an eye on the thread...

Be Prepaired
Bring lots of extra water.
Be ready for wind and dust.
You will enjoy ever minute of each day.
I went in '95, and it has grown 10 fold.
Kinda like a NASCAR race, Beatles/Greatful Dead concert and New Years Eve all at the same time.
You can get away with anything.

Everyone is well versed in the difference between naked and nekkid, right?
Naked = no clothes
Nekkid = no clothes and up to something
From everything I've heard about Burning Man, there's lots of both.
At the RV dealership where I get my AS worked on, a guy was so psyched about it, he kept showing me Web sites and pictures. "My whole family goes," he said. "It's like a big family reunion. It's just like any other reunion. Except me and my moms and sister and stepdad are naked in all the family photos."
Tee. Hee. But the art, the ART, bikes, the freedom of expression, the lack of commercialism, the barebones-edness is pretty cool!
I hope everyone has a fantastic time, and gets the crevices clean after! My work forbids extended vacay during summer. :-(

Just an FYI...
Not everyone is naked
or nekkid.
In fact, most people are clothed.
The clothing may be uh...quite creative at times.
But lots of people wear what they do at home.
Don't want to scare anyone away.
But the point is...
everyone is free to do and wear (or not wear) what they want
and it's all okay.
And it is very hot.
And dusty and dirty.
You bring everything with you
and take it all away with you.
(no water, no trash services)
It's a tough camp.
But well worth the trouble.
The art, the art cars, and THE ART.
The people, the community, the camps...
Read everything on the web site, google, and YouTube.
Then go with an open mind.
You will be amazed.

Free to do what they want... unless they want to show up without an "open mind" or leave their trash behind. LOL! Seems it's not ALL OK
...Just saying...

See location on Google Earth, search "Black Rock City, NV"; you can zoom in and see details of past burn(s).

hi Monte
Hey did you get my email asking if that was you driving east near Palm Springs about 10 days ago? I thought I saw you and I was driving to our house in Palm Springs. Remember me? from Tahoe. You came and picked up a bunch of stuff from me. and BMAN 2 years ago.

Yay, Michael! See you there [again] (selfless plug). This time I vow to have a battery in the Sovereign and not leave it beside the highway. I wonder if we can track down Jim Rutherford? I'd hate to be without his margaritas. I'm going to bring lots of icecicle lights to maybe help you and Dennis not run into things...
Got any ideas where you're going to put down the center stake? Hopefully about 6 blocks out on either 3 or 9.
Do we get to co-op the name Burnstream Court?
If you're an early poster on this thread, are you a charter member of the Artzilla Burnstreamers?
Is there any way to contain the excitement?
Do tickets really go on sale TOMORROW AT 10:00 AM Pacific Coaster Time? YES!
Being the totally nekkid kind of person that I am condemned to be, I am bringing my Geolocator shirt so as not to offend...
Burningly,
Dr. Quark

oooh, oooh, oooh, I have an evil plan!
Now working feverishly on background info to convince my editors/publisher to pay my way to Burning Man to write about our local contingent of BM attendees. I just found out we have about 20-50 people from Jackson who go (one couple got married there last year).
IS it possible to get all the dirt/dust/white stuff out of your Airstream after attending one of these?
Bicycles, body paint, feathers, hula hoops, sunscreen, music, dancing, merrymaking, YAY!

I'd do it. Went to Burnstream last year in my Silversteak MH "Twinkle" and had a good time and met some good people. For 2008 it looks like Burnstream is taking a rest. Me, I'm ready to head back and hang with the silver twinkies.

No feathers! No boa's, no Moop (matter out of place). Feathers tend to come off whatever they are attached to and (excuse the pun) fly around where they litter the Black Rock.
This event is a Leave no Trace event which means that we do our best to..er, leave no trace. It is hard to do but once the event is over and all cleaned up, there is minimal traces of our presence there.
As was mentioned before, you really should read the Burning Masn web site - especially if you are a first timer. And above all, don't go if you plan on being a tourist - go if you plan on being a participant.
I am glad to see that an organized effort is starting to come together for Airstreamers. There is such a high desire to rally out there and with Burnstream Court's decision to cut back in order to get back to basics I know that desire will be even greater.
As a year round volunteer for the event AND an Airstream lover I will be watching this unfold with great interest.
