I was able to post table pictures in 1990 Airstream pictures file. Let me know if you need additional photos.

Beaubill, How does your rig work? We have an AS Interstate (2007) and a 21' Sovereign, but I wasn't sure that it made sense to use one to pull the other because I'm so close to the weight limits for tow and tongue weights. Also, we live in Colorado, so need to be able to handle ascents up long inclines. Do you have a transmission cooler? I'd appreciate learning more. Cheers, Nick

Pulling the 21
The dry weight of the Sovereign 21 is 3,900 lbs, the Sprinter is rated to pull 5,000 lbs. Ours has the 5 cylinder MB diesel eng. and is a 2500 or a 3/4 ton. I know the newer sprinter are 3500 or one ton with a v6 and should be able to pull more. We saw a new Airstream Interstate pulling a 25 ft trailer at the Canopener Rally last year, they bought both units from Foley RV in Gulfport MS. We have driven in the mountains in the Caroliners, Tenn, Ky, Ala. And Georgia without any problems,As a mater of fact it does great in the mountains. The only thing we did to the Sprinter was to add a trailer plug in. We love this combination. We did look at the Sport 22 befor we bought the 92 Sovereign 21 and there was no comparison. The 21 has large holding tanks, large frig (6 c/f) a couch and twin axles , and the weight was a little more than the 22.

Beaubill,
Thanks for the response. I always try to stay well south of these limits, and I figure that once I add people and luggage, we're likely to be pretty close to the absolute GVWR. That said, I'm heartened to read your report and will be giving it a go.
Cheers,
Nick

We had a 1996 21' Sovereign that we sold in about 2012 to a couple in Grand Junction, Colo. We pulled in for thousands of miles with our 6 cyl Ford Explorer. It did have to struggle a bit in the Rocky Mountains. Our sale was driven by the fact that it was not enough room for us and a large Border Collie.
We were told when we bought it that AS had quit making them in 1995 but ours was built special in 1996 for a famous Hollywood stunt man. He only used it on location and the stove had never been used. He had mistakenly left all his personal belongings, including promotion photos. So we had to contact him to return them.
We removed the carpeting and replaced it with plank flooring.

Looking for a 21 Sovereign
Hi, this is our first post in this forum. My wife, son, and I are looking for our first airstream. We cannot afford the newer models, don't have time to renovate the antique ones, and need a smaller one to fit into the national forest campsites. So, a 1990's Sovereign seems to fit the bill, assuming it in fairly good shape and hasn't had a complete renovation done.
Any 21 Sovereign owners looking to sell in the near future?
Mark

Sovereign 21' 1995.
Mark.
I love my 1995 Sovereign, 21? and we just moved to Tn. Sewanee. If we do not use it much this season we will be selling. Will have to see around Sept. We will be asking around $17,000 for reference. I am sure you have looked at the attributes of the Sovereign. This is a 2 owner and everything works. A few dents.

We found a 2007 Safari 20' on sale. The counter space in the 20 is what sold us, although we had to pay more for a 2007.

This is a very old thread, with less than 100 posts' participation. It looks like there were indeed very few made over their production run. We have a 1993 model that we rescued a little over a year ago, just before it was sent to scrap. A brand new complete A-frame and a lot of smaller things, and it's on the road again.

Sovereign '93
Decided to chime in here also and say we have owned a 1993 Sovereign for many years. Love the layout, large tanks and double axles. Going to finally be able to take her out for more adventures this year. Installed LED lighting this year and upgraded our TV to a Ford F150 and looking to get a new hitch. Curious what other folks are using. Also having issues with the clear coat.

Hi,
in case you decide to sell I would be interested.
Otherwise enjoy your Sovereign.

Resurrecting old posts.
We just closed the deal last night on a 1993 21' sovereign, This unit is in my neighbourhood, and it had been sitting for the last 7 or so years. We took a good look at it and it looks all good, it does have vinyl flooring but that needs to go, and we will update and remove the front couch and replace it with a dinette. The outside looks pretty good just your usual cleaning as it has been sitting underneath the trees.
We are super exited and it will be a step up from our 13' boler which we will keep as well.

I have a 1995 21' Sovereign. I tow with a 2000 4runner with supercharger that adds 70 hp. Brakes are adequate. I use a standard load leveling hitch with sway bar set on 3 turns for friction. I tried the $1,800 hitch and it felt like it was pushing the TV around. Make sure you get the Sway bar attachment.

We will be towing with a 2015 F150 with the eco boost so that truck has no issues dragging that unit around.
As for load leveling swaybar, I still have the Reese dual cam load leveler from our previous stick build trailer.

My 1995 was sitting for 5 years. The spark igniter for the gas refrig. had rust on the igniter and ground that it sparked to. I sanded it off and working good for 3 years. The fan motor for the heat went bad after 6 months. Squealing bearings. Replacing with new motor was fairly easy. Nice and quiet now. The vent for tanks leaked, rubber seal went bad, replaced. AC cover replaced. Replaced both vent covers. paid $9500 for mine 5 years ago, Dents on the outside, Inside is original and Great. What did you pay for yours if I can ask.
