Lock post?

Has anyone had the post or cylinder that the door latches to fall off? We are on vacation in the southern states and yesterday the door flew open going down the highway. The door is OK but now there is no way to hold the door shut. Thank God for duct tape we made it to our campground in Galveston Texas. Was able to take screen out open window to put my hand to latch door from the inside.

I have seen a wooden wedge that was put over the door and under the grab handle to hold the door shut while running down the road. I asked the owner about it, seems his door had popped open one time before and he was making sure it would not happen again.

I always use my separate deadbolt to latch/lock the door prior to towing the trailer.

Thanks much for the great idea. I have made a wedge to stick through the handle. I think between that and latching the deadbolt via the window, we will have peace of mind on the road tomorrow. I sure appreciate your response. Jim.

You can also use a rubber door stop wedge under the grab bar, and put a cord on it to loop through the bar so it isn't lost. I hang it from the key hooks inside overnight, but then who would ever stick it in place while we are sleeping.
