Loose upper cabinet screws

Just a public service announcement: I was prepping the bus for a football tailgate and noticed a loose screw in one of the upper cabinets. Upon further review, four of the cabinets had screws that were partially or completely out. If you have an older AI (ours is a 2011), you may want to do a quick inspection. I've also occasionally had to tighten loose screws inside the storage cabinet located over the driver's and passenger's seat. You need a stubby Phillips head screwdriver for those.

Good advice - as this is a common problem. I found many of the screws on my upper cabinet doors were too short (1/2") and coming loose. Even had one side of hinge come completely off. I added longer 3/4" screws and some Gorilla glue - all holding after 120,000 miles over 7 years.

It's a common problem on the older Interstates also. It manifests most strongly on the side of ours where we had previously dismounted the cabinets to install electrical improvements. Routine tightening is required.

I was getting some squeaking at the rear end of our long upper cabinet above the galley. The screws were already tight so I wanted to add a screw but didn't know what exactly they attach to. I unscrewed one of the screws so I could purchase an identical length screw and installed it near the other screw in hopes of not piercing anything that I shouldn't. I think the screw was a full four inches long (!) and it did help that squeaking.

Today my local dealer will temporarily remove this long cabinet so they can uninstall my Fiamma awning mount rail (new post on that subject coming soon). I will ask them to add a few screws for good measure upon re-installing.
