Towing without coach batteries
I'll be digging out the 25FB Flying Cloud from a snow bank this week getting ready to head south for a month. I'd like to tow it 5 miles back to the house before I put the batteries back in. I'm pretty sure the TV provides power for the brakes, but I've started wondering if all any of those loose cables in the battery box will be energized by the TV and possibly short circuit. Do I need to isolate any of the battery connectors, or should I just bite the bullet and install the batteries in the snow bank at the storage site?

The 7 pin has a charge wire in it that will indeed short if the pos lead touch's ground. You will also not have trailer brakes in a breakaway situation.

If your trailer requires brakes, they must be functional in case of a break-away. Not having a battery is illegal. You may get away with it but is it worth the risk?

Think about it --- if the trailer breaks away , so does the power from the tow V.

All that said, all you need is a fully charged 12 volt battery properly connected to the breakaway switch and trailer ground. Does not have to be a full set of ‘house batteries ‘

I’d put a battery in. But if I was worried about breakaway in a 5 mile tow I wouldn’t tow at all.
