To paraphrase Groucho, any city that would have a citizen like me, I wouldn't care to live in.

In my city, Sacramento, it is against the city code to keep a trailer or RV or anything parked in your driveway over a certain number of days, but somehow or another I just get complements on my Airstream. I've never had a complaint. There are a lot of newer neighborhoods where I would get in trouble, but fortunately I don't live there.

So the owner of the trailer did his research, bought the house in a spot where this was allowed, and is complying with local ordnances, and now they are trying to change the ordnances so he will have to move it?

HOA is not a bad thing, in most cases. If this is a deed restricted home this is another thing. We did have a SOB parked in a gated RV resort, we owned the lots, the HOA dished out a lot of trouble on mostly nothing things . Has anyone lived in a condo and experienced the condo commandos. Thinking like this is beyond me......Must have been a slow news day........nice rig...classy

My brothers HOA has a similar regulation.....we parked in the street.
The "party stork" is holding the permit....
We have no such regulations in our by-laws.

I think the only rules in our town are that it has to be on a hard surface (i.e., not on the grass), and apparently it can't be beyond the front of the house. Apparently that latter one was enforced at some point in another neighborhood a friend lives in, but I kept our B190 in front of our house for 5 years without a complaint. (I think people are hesitant to complain about anything I do - the house had a terrible reputation before I bought it, and apparently I'm keeping it in far better condition than previous residents did, so everyone is just glad to have us.)
We expanded the driveway alongside the house before we bought the trailer, and that's where it lives.
Fortunately, our town has far so many RV and boat owners that I think a new rule like that would quickly be shot down (there are two travel trailers on our street alone, and our street isn't very long), but at the same time I've sort of wanted to start a local group for owners of RVs in our town, just in case someone does decide getting rid of RVs and boats would be a good idea.

Yup. Exactly my feeling. HOA's are NOTHING but a bunch of busybodies. NEVER again, Never again. Ugggggggggg. Hate 'em.
And if you read some of the comments by the so called "journalist", looks like they are just trying to stir up more crap rather than reporting legitimate news stories. I refuse to watch the news any longer, it's nothing but haircuts and makeup these days. Ridiculous nonsense.
Just my two cents. YMMV.

Jim,
....."haircuts & make-up"
Love it....
Last nights "news"....haircut standing in the cold and snowy darkness, with nothing visible at all in the background, explaining how spectacular the fire was 6 hours ago when it was actually happening.
I love it when that happens....
The beginning of the end....when it became popular to "pair-up" at the news desk, they love to chit-chat with each other instead of actually presenting something worthwhile to the folks watching.
"Randy.... that was truly a heartwarming story"
Tell that to the nutcase standing out in the cold reporting on a fire thats been out for 6 hours.
Bob

We knowingly bought in a HOA and actually love our neighborhood. We are unable to park on street, no vehicles w/ commercial markings in driveways and no rv' s of any kind in community except 24 hours to load or unload. Since the acquisition of Airstream we consider selling for a non HOA neighborhood. It sure would make it easier to work on.

Here's another article, same subject.
Airstream trailer in Prairie Village driveway causes kerfuffle among neighbors
The comments are interesting. Most people think the Airstream looks fine!

I live in a gated HOA neighborhood and I absolutely hate it. Typical Nazi style board member or two or three (varies) at all times. My son lives here also. He was getting ready to go on stage to deliver a talk to 2,000 marketers last week at a major conference when his phone rang. One of the HOA "officials" was calling him to advise that a one foot tall gnome in a corner of his yard was in violation of some sacred CC&R. Being a bit younger and more direct than me he told the "official" to eff off.
I'm allowed to bring my trailer in for 36 hours. My house is for sale and I can't wait to get out of this place. Big mistake buying here.

We have only the daylight visitation capability for our Airstream in our HOA. No vehicles on the street over night.
This was not a problem before the Airstream, but we have to go 10 miles and hitch up before departing on a trip, or bring it to back to the house to finish loading refrigerated goods etc.
If I had known then what I know now........

Apparently our neighborhood has this rule as well. We have to drive on the grass to get our AS into the backyard where it sits under a nice aluminum carport, and because our lot is narrower in front, we have to drive on the neighbor's lawn to do that. Luckily they are also RV'ers and had no problem with it, in fact they typically park their little boat alongside the house in front of our trailer.
She warned me about the neighborhood busybodies turning her into the code enforcement a couple years ago for parking their trailer on the gravel area next to their driveway - technically NOT a hard surface in the code inspector's opinion. She said they moved the RV into the driveway for a couple weeks, and then moved it back onto the gravel when she figured they had forgotten about it, and no one has bothered her again.
Luckily our neighborhood is an older one and has no HOA or CC&Rs, and everyone has a classic car, boat, rv or one of each in the driveway, so for the most part there is no one stirring the pot.

We lived, for the last 30 years, in a home in what I would call a rural subdivision of 5 acre lots. There were no restrictions or HOA. Life was good until it came time to retire and sell our home. That which goes on around your home can have a big impact on the value of your home and your ability to sell that home. I learned my financial lesson about unrestricted neighborhoods (even with large lots).
We recently bought a home in a subdivision with restrictions and an HOA. I read the restrictions carefully before I bought the home and I live by them. I think if you buy a house in a subdivision with an HOA and restrictions, you should be prepared to live by the restrictions that you agreed to when you bought the house.
I now pay rent to park my AS under covered storage. I would prefer to have it at home. But I like the benefits of a restricted neighborhood with an active HOA enough to live with the rules.

I know in Pasadena, you can't park on the street for more than a few hours. I have had no issues in my driveway yet tho...

To each his own. I feel like I'm serving my time in a minimum security prison. What folks in my ever so carefully manicured and protected community don't realize is that the gates keep us in more than they keep others out. Fortunately I complete my sentence in January and then released out on the open road. Look for the gnome in the back window.

Meanwhile, in a suburban street in South Western Ontario....
Someone complained about our Airstream being on the driveway. He didn't complain to me, but to my neighbour who, ironically, had a 25' Trail Lite on his driveway. It seems that the complainer didn't like the look of the Airstream and assumed it to be a second-hand junker when in fact it was brand new. My neighbour patiently explained to the complainer that the Airstream was new and very expensive and the guy went away, apparently mollified. We checked the local byelaws (ordinances) and they say that we can have TWO RVs on our drive between the start of April and the End of October, but nothing over the winter months; I nearly went out and bought a second RV just to prove a point!
We can also keep an RV on our property all year if it's behind the back of the house but, sadly, we don't have access wide enough to allow that.
