New to us ‘87 Sovereign 29’

Hello!

We have been lurking for quite some time and thought we should finally say hi. We purchased a 1987 Sovereign 29’ just under 2 months ago. We have been having fun learning the ropes at the various state parks around us. Our plan is to take Florence around the country. We will be living in it full time for as long as it takes to make that plan into a reality. The previous owner had pulled up all the carpet that could be seen and put down a waterproof vinyl plank flooring. A few other little tweaks were made. Other than that, she appears to be in all her 1987 glory. While we do have an appreciation for vintage, we feel it’s time to update her decor which includes taking out the couch that was probably the most uncomfortable couch we have slept on. We also are wanting to replace countertop and sink in kitchen and bath. We have plans to take out the stove as we don’t intend to use it. We have removed removed the couch and replaced it with a sofa sleeper which was heaven to sleep on and folds up nicely. A question we do have is would anyone be interested in buying the couch and any other bits that we pull out or should we just send it to the dump. I feel guilty at the thought of that but we have no place to store these items for a long time. Any thoughts on that? I’ve enjoyed reading around the forum. I hope that I am not breaking any rules.

Greetings from Colorado: Welcome to the Airstream community. Glad you decided to join. I find this an easy group and not stuffy about this protocol or that one. Relax and have fun.

As you know, there is a Airstream Classifieds portion associated with these Forums. Often there are interior parts for sale. There is not a big market for them, especially your model year. If it was a 50s trailer, then maybe more so. However, you could advertise it here for free, take a photo or two, and see if someone close by has an interest.

We have a 86 Limited 34', which is similar to your Sovereign. We take a couple of long trips a year in our retirement. Our trailer has been in the family since it was new. Airstreams aren't the biggest trailer in the park, but they are unique, easy to tow, and quite comfortable.

Your old parts...

The suggestion about putting the parts you are removing from your trailer on the classifieds is perfect. If you don't get any response from them after a bit, I suggest even putting on Craigslist for free, OBO. You might be surprised what some folks would be looking for!

Have fun on your new adventure!

Thank you both for your response and suggestion. We had decided to send them off to the dump after all. We just couldn’t see anyone wanting those items.
David, how awesome y’all have had yours from the start. What memories it must have!

So what will you be replacing it with or using instead of your stove.

Yes, a lot of good memories in our Airstream. We borrowed the thing and took our boys to Glacier National Park in the late 80s. The wind got the awning and put a dent in the front curb side end cap. I ran my fingers over that crease just the other days reminding me what a dummy I was to leave the awning out while away from the trailer. Airstream lesson number 39.
