How to manually operate hitch jack?

We recently ran into an issue with our electric jack not working, either on battery power or while connected with the umbilical to our tow vehicle. I know on our 1980 we are able to take the top of the electric jack off by removing four screws, lifting the cylinder out and using a bent hitch wrench to manually operate it, does the same apply to the 1966? I was able to remove the top of this jack, but am not sure where to go from there.

Any suggestions/thoughts on this?

We are considering replacing the electric jack with a manual one just to have one less thing to go awry... Thoughts on this would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

Unfortunately these jacks seem to burn out early. I had to replace mine when it failed during a trip to Las Vegas. It was a Barker brand just 3 years old and just stopped working after beginning to hesitate during use, the motor was shot. I replaced it with a Stromberg-Carlson 5000 lb capacity electric jack. The new one works with more ease & is quieter that the Barker. I also cary a bottle jack in case of another failure, hope I never have to use it but I have it just in case.
