I think I understand your frustration. We, too, traveled about 10 hours one way on a long weekend to pick up what we thought was a very good trailer with minor problems. When we got there, the vents were broken out, which allowed rain to soften the flooring, the couch which in pictures looked fine with the throw over it had apparently been lunch for many rodents, the pull out bunks were split down the middle, and the systems had not been checked as they had said they were. We ended up just driving home, another 10 hours, very dissappointed and frustrated. The very next week, however, we found a trailer about 30 miles away that is in what I would consider perfect original interior condition. The only problem is the clear coat is separating, which is fine since we are wanting to polish it to a mirror finish anyway.
All that to say this. Don't be discouraged. There is a perfect trailer out there for you and your family.

Steve, I am mortified to hear of your disappointment in the 67 Safari. You have my sympathy. I hope that this will not put you off Airstreams and you'll find the ideal one for your family in the near future.
Folks, let this be a reminder to all: we have a FREE service on this forum to inspect trailers before you drive long distances to get them. There are dozens of volunteers happy to help you. Download the list here: http://www.airforums.com/forum...chmentid=10992

The bad thing for some of us is that we didn't know about the forum until after our long trip.

Well, I'm currently running two tracks, try to sell as is or send to Birchwood Beauties in N. CA for some repair and restoration work (floors and woodwork). I'll keep you all posted on what happens. Thanks for the support!

Steve,
Thanks for the honest reply and it's sad to hear about this happeming. My wife and I are looking for our first AS at this time (been looking for several months) and I have a fear of any long distance purchase. Does anyone have suggestions on how to avoid what happened to Steve?
