I just got home from three weekends of work. Stayed many places along the way and I was always the little guy among very large units until last night when a brand new 13' ScAmp,came rolling in, with family of four. It was their 4th night ever camping. I did not ask them how much it was, very cute.

Love those scamps - my wife was not crazy about them though...

Yea they would make a great fast strike Trailer, when you want to visit friends a few hours away, but not take over their house. There is nothing like visiting friends who don't have kids. Small breakable nick nacks, all over the place, usually at eye level for a three year old..

I would have to paint it silver though..

Our Scamp was the most basic of travel trailers, $800 used and nothing to fix. There is great reliability in simplicity, almost nothing to break nor shell seams to leak. It became a winter ice fishing house for awhile, and then back to a camper by a young couple who coveted it. Still no leaks.

I met a nice guy from Iowa in Big Bend National Park who was doing a cross country in his Scamp. I was giving him a hand trying to fix a leaky water tank (oh yes, they also have issues!). He liked how easy it was to tow, but confessed that it was a lot less fun if you were stuck inside for a couple of rainy days.

We have a friend at the campground who camps in a 17' Casita. It is a lot larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Great for 1 person. The trailer has a very good layout.

our airstream was bought with a couple of other uses in mind:

1) extra sleeping at my home....we almost last year moved into a 4 bedroom house and sold our house because my wife wanted more sleeping for family that visit relatively often...she was tired of blow up mattresses in the den. Now with the AS, we have effectively 2 more bedrooms and this will make folks visiting much more nice.

2) wife wants a lake lot on down the line to enjoy with our local friends and family for more routine use, but she and I hated the idea of worrying about a house and all upkeep, yard, etc and the cost with it sunk into that one single location....so a weekend lakehouse getaway. Although we are a tad doubtful that we will care to buy this property, but who knows on down the line...

3) and of course to travel about on vacations and weekend getaways with kids and family camping etc...the bulk of our desire to own this beautiful tin can

I entertained the idea of smaller and found it quite appealing for starters...wife veto'd this idea cause she knows she would hate getting cooped up on 1 week vacations in the case of lengthy rain down on the coast etc...

Happy Wife, Happy Life

It is just the 2 of us and a small cat. We just want the biggest trailer available so it will be more like home. No flipping, converting, transforming this or that. Everything is ready to go.
If they still made the 34...
If they still made the slide...
We are overweight and will have to lose weight before full timing- according to my wife- she says we are too big for this trailer...

Lol - well - losing weight will let you do a lot of things buddy - get on the calorie counting (see app "lose it" and start counting and restricting and live lingers years in that big ol tin can

Sorry - I work in primary care and am prone to "motivational interviewing"

Some guy with an SOB asked: How much does an Airstream like yours cost?
I said: I don’t know. My wife bought it for me, and I never bothered to ask her.

I paid $3,500 and got a steal. It was the $10,000 in repairs and new mechanicals and hundreds of hours that were expensive. Though, I may never get the question "how much did you pay". It will be more of the how old is that thing? Since I'm shining it up, and the tires, lights, and emblems will be new, I hope someone thinks it is new. We'll see. I love the interiors on the new ones - so even though I have all the same comforts as you guys - flip on water, thermostat heat pump, etc, I'm still in a trailer that's a lot older than me.

I love the timelessness. On one of my first trips I heard someone walking by. "Look! An old Airstream." It was two months old.

btw, while at a lunch with my brother and his inlaws...his new brother in law...pretty nice guy as far as I can tell, when excitedly told by my brother about my impending purchase, he asked more details....once revealed about it being an airstream he "asked":

"wow, did you win the lottery or something"

gods, what an annoying thing to say. I just kinda "laughed" about it and moved on....
