Trailers on Film, what have you seen?

We streamed a film (being partial to old, obscure, and/or independent film) last weekend with a great mid-thirties trailer co-star, Hitch Hike Lady (1935). Stuff like this is an acquired taste for some, but I'm a road-film junkie, gotta love the scenes shot inside the trailer, and the bits of 30s TT

Behind the Curtain: Hitch Hike Lady (1935)

I'm curious to know what other films with Airstreams or trailers others would recommend.. or good road-movies

This Argosy Minuet was used in a number of TV ads and was also used in the movie C.O.G staring Jonathan Groff and directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez.

It is also featured in the Trailer Chix Productions videos (trailerchixproductions.com).

If you don't mind motorhomes on film, Bill Murray's "Stripes" stars a heavily-armed recreational vehicle in the second half.

Bob, excellent submission. That has got to be the record for most Airstreams in a movie.

Thor

I think exterior shots of perhaps a 20' FC

Internal shots looked mixed - some were real shots - another looked like perhaps a set or a longer AS

Shots in any kind of trailer look that way. An acquaintance of mine in the film industry (worked on the Bonnie and Clyde movie filmed up by St. Francisville, LA earlier this year) tells me that to film inside a real trailer, they take out windows, and set up the camera outside. That gives the camera a longer sight distance than a person in the trailer would have, which makes the trailer seem bigger. More importantly it gives the actors more room to move around without tripping over the camera crew.

Airstreams in the movies.

To help you all catch up, here is a thread started from back in '02.

Airstreams in the movies...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...vies-1485.html

Lots of great Airstreams, some lousy movies. Still, the sight of an Airstream on film seems to enhance the movie... and at least make it memorable.

Trailers were a fad of the late 30s and found their way into different movies.

Double Wedding starring William Powell and Myrna Loy is excellent. Powell plays a free spirit who lives in a trailer, Loy plays a hard driving business executive. Great story with some very funny scenes, many of them featuring the trailer.

A Star Is Born has a honeymoon scene in a trailer

Both from the time you mention.

The Long Long Trailer has a couple of Airstreams in the background in the trailer show and at the campground. Is this the first appearance of an Airstream in the movies? I did see one in a prewar newsreel, what about a feature?

My wife and I watched a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie, "Fir Crazy". An airstream is featured throughout. In the plot, the family stays in the Airstream, as they travel from their Christmas tree farm in upstate NY to NYC to sell their trees. Kind of a corny movie, but fun to see the old Airstream.

That AS in Fir Crazy is owned by Forums member DavidsonOverlander. Look for thread called Our Airstream on TV for more details. It's the second TV appearance for their trailer, the other being.an appearance on Flashpoint

Here's a link to the thread where I describe our experience with renting out our Airstream for Fir Crazy and Flashpoint.
