gas mileage questions
My family has been considering buying an airstream motorhome. Looking at a 1984 345. Anyone have one of these? What can we expect for miles per gallon range?
Also looking at a 1991 Airstream Classic Limited 350 LE Diesel. MPG's?
And, finally, a 1983 310 Diesel. MPG's?
Thanks so much, everyone!

The gas 345: 7 to 10 mpg, The Diesel 310, 11 to 14 mpg. No idea of the 350 Diesel.

Diesel!
The 1991 Airstream Classic Limited 350 LE Diesel is a very rare bird! If you walk away from that one, you'll never find one again!
If the diesel unit it is the unit I found, you better snatch that up for that price! You'll really be happier with the diesel. The window awnings all around indicate lots of upgrades. Low miles! It has leveling jacks. The paint looks to be in good shape.

Also, the 1983 and the 1991 will have very different transmissions. The 1991 is geared for today's highway speeds. The 1983 is really geared for the 55 mph speeds of the day. Driving faster that 55 mph will tax the Isuzu engine.

55 or so is a good practical limit for a stock Isuzu-equipped diesel 310. It won't tax the engine, the stop on the injection pump pretty much limits it to 3100 rpm which is around 58 mph. Most I have seen include a Gear Vendors overdrive unit which fixes this problem. Mine will do about 75 at 3000 rpm, but I typically drive it around 62 (at around 2500 rpm).

I have a 1991 Airstream Classic 350LE motorhome home with 79K miles. Restored interior and exterior gel coated in 2006. Gel coat needs work above the "belt line" which P&S Trailer Service will do for $5K. You may contact me at marilyngraveshansen@gmail.com. Reside in Williamsburg, Va. Price: $20k or negotiable.

Not the Interstate 3500, but the same chassis (2006 Sprinter with the I5 engine) with a Roadtrek MH on it ... ours gets about 22-24 at 55-60 mph and 20-21 at 75+ on a recent cross-country trip. If you are really heavy on the pedal it can go down to 18-19 but if you let it accelerate gently it will stay above 20. If yours is the 2013 I would expect it to be slightly worse if you drive aggressively and slightly better if you drive gently as the engine management is a bit smarter in the new V6 ... but it is a bigger engine.

I have 2012 3500 EXT. It weighs in around 11,000 pounds. I would consider myself an 'aggressive' driver. I don't really try to get the best gas mileage; I drive for fun. On that note, my mileage probably suffers a bit, however, I still get between 18-19 mpg.
