Airstream Atlas Problems
Tags atlas, quality problems
We had a 2020 Atlas…due to the pandemic, we only went on a few trips racking up 15,000 miles.
We continued to have Atlas problems:
1. Stabilizer jacks failed to go up - due to loose wiring on driver side. We had a similar problem on the passenger side last year - fixed by Colonial Airstream. This the wire broke on the driver side. Oh yes…there is a mechanism to manually raise the jacks with a 5/8” socket wrench but that nut broke completely off. Fortunately I found the 2 ends of the wire, reconnected them and raised the jack. Very poorly constructed.
2. Active Distance Assist Inoperative - unable to shift gears, could not drive the van occurred this April. Also saw warning - Auxiliary Battery Malfunction. We had to be towed (11,500 lbs) to Stevens Creek Mercedes who didn’t know what to do so CoachNet had the Atlas towed to Mercedes San Jose. Finally fixed.
3. Massive cracks in body due to poor workmanship - fixed by Schumacher Mercedes but repair took 4 months - it was a very nice job.
4. Black hose leak when pump is on.
5. Side entry door doesn’t automatically lock when driving
6. Teak in shower warped and detached from shower wall
7. Leak noted along ceiling inside teak lined cupboards
So after these and additional other minor issues, we decided that this $240,000 “luxurious” class B was a lemon. I sold it to a dealer and as soon as I did, I was kicked out of the Atlas Facebook page.
I am sticking with Airstream though, I bought a 2023 Globetrotter 27FB and a new truck.
