Gut or Sell and buy a gutted one

I bought a 78 Excella to put in my backyard with the full intention to gut and completely redo. At first glance the interior looks pretty beat up.

However I've seen quite a few that are already gutted locally for sale. Seems like a shame to just throw it all away. It could very well be salvageable??

This one is only going to be in my back yard so want to make it a more permanent guest bedroom/bathroom. So don't want the stock set up.

Any advice?

That's in great shape! If it's just going to be a guest house I'd would give it a fresh coat of paint

Welcome to the Forums!

It is entirely up to you. Yes, by buying an already gutted one, you save yourself the labor of tearing this one apart, and the effort required to dispose of the parts. But, you then increase your hassle factor of finding a good gutted one, and selling the one you have. Effort wise, there is probalby no net savings. One advantage of having one with the interior, is that you may decide to reuse some of those parts, or at least to use them as templates. Buy a gutted trailer, and you are flying blind.

Philosophically, I can imagine there are some folks out there that would decry the shame of taking a complete "original condition" trailer and disposing of the interior. If that interior was really worth something, you would have no trouble selling the components, but it is very unlikely that you could even give it away.

So take the path of least resistance, whatever that is to you, and don't worry about what the purists' criticisms are. Unless you invite them over, they will never see it anyway.

good luck!
