2air,
Thanks for the site, I can only count 5 that we have been two and that is if you count Wall Drug twice ( it is shown twice).

I was curious about the hall of fame at the corn palace since I do have a nomination for that hall of fame if it does exist.
Common among halls of names that the little knowns of the famous would be often overlooked even if they attained great fame in a region of thier own. To no fault of their own sometimes a little known regional Farmer can not get out and gain national fame. Such is the case of my nomination. You might have guessed it is not a national star from a big conglomerate corn hybrid seed company like Cargil or Monsanto, they must have many entries in the hall already. No my nomination comes from the company named Sid's. Sid's Hybrids. The nomination is #56. Actually it is now called #56P but more about that later.
#56 started off life as any other corn hybrid seed does, in the dirt. It was planted by a 12 row planter with a flat tire on the right side. Eighteen days after planting it began to germinate and soon sprouted through the rich black earth of Iowa. (it is a foreign variety) #56s life was rather unspectacular in its adolescence other than the application of the herbicide and an occasional walk through of Sid himself nothing spectacular occurred. One day some men trimmed back several rows by the road and put up signs that read: Hybrid # 56 By Sid. but that was all. Then when #56's tassels were almost grown a group of young kids came by and pulled every other row of them off. Boy did that hurt. But there was this one kid who had worked at Orville's popcorn farm the day before and got fired for popping off at the mouth. Sid hired him without checking to see if he had washed his hands from the day before and put him on the #56 pulling squad. Now this kid was still in a huff over getting canned and he did not pull every tassel in fact you could say he tussled with some of the tassels. Some sex was spared in the rows of old #56 so to speak that summer. However, Sid was no wiser to the hanky panky going on behind the signs along the road. The summer wore on and the corn ripened and the seeds were harvested and carefully bagged for sale. #56 was a big seller for Sid and those who planted that variety found that each stalk produced not one but two ears of corn! A miracle and Sid was a hero. He immediately planted more of his #56 Hybrid and everyone wanted a bag full of this wonderful two ear on a stalk corn. Then one summer it became very hot, an Iowa (this is a foreign story) hot summer. Temperatures rose into the 100's. Then the strangest thing began to happen in all of the corn fields where Sid's #56 Hybrid was planted, it began to pop. The fields turned into popped popcorn. What was going on? An investigator was called in (CSI Ottumwa) and the kid who was fired from Orville who did not wash his hands from the day before who was sloppy in the detasseling was found to be the fault. Now what to do with all this popcorn. The people thought of opening a drive in theater, but no G rated movies were running that summer. Then someone thought of importing hogs to eat the popcorn. And that is what they did and that is why Iowa is known as the hog state today.
Now you see why #56 hybrid needs to be in the corn hall of fame.

You will need to clean up your comments about tires.

Has anyone been to "South of the Border" on I-95? It is home
of the bottling plant for Blenheim ginger ale. That stuff will
take the top of your head off. Tasty...

You see their signs for miles before you get anywhere near the turn off. Never been - all the hype turns me off when traveling along the interstates, I like the mom amd pop stuff.

Hall of fame
If you count the spam museum, I've been to 7. BTW the airstream has been with me to all of them. I even gave a fleeting thought to buy some Hormel stock after seeing their fine museum.

Also, did you know that Otis Redding died in the waters in Madison in your home State?..

They were "sitting on the dock by the bay" as his plane sank in the waters of Lake Mendota.
Is Otis Redding in the Spam Hall of Fame?
