Mud Flaps Revisited

Hi all,

I've been checking into the Enkay adjustable mud flaps for the F-250 and came across these.

Anyone have any knowledge or experience with them? How do they compare with the Enkays?

Also, it looks like the Enkays are the same price no matter where you get them from. Does anyone know of a dealer with better prices? All of the ones I checked out have $229 for the non-dually set.

I built my own.

square stock was $8.00 from metal shop. 24"wide flaps were $4.00 each. Can of black rustoleum paint $4-5.00. Two galvanized 2"x2" angle brackets $3.50. Two 2"x1/4"galv. bolts and ten self tapping galvanized sheet metal screws to hold the flaps.

The angles were drilled to match the bolts that hold the receiver, bumper assembly from the bottom.

Takes a little drilling, painting, measuring for height. Cut the flaps to length with my table saw.

Only disadvantage, it is made specifically for my 2003 gmc on width & height. Looks very similar to the Vaughn except square stock with flaps is bolted to the angles about six inches from outside edge of bumper.

Folks in my WBCCI unit usually make their own.

Also, where did you get the flap stock. Sounds like Heavy Duty if you had to break out the table saw for the cutting.... Square stock was aluminum? HD, Lowes?

Okay...curiosity question here,...My "new" truck has the big mudflaps right behind the wheels, should I still add the monster flaps at the back? and how effective are the "grass skirts" style flaps like you see on the UPS trucks and big MoHo's?

i have both wheel well flaps, plus the ones i made.

i still get rock dings, just not as many. i think some of them come from vehicles going the other way.

that is a given...my AS looks like it has been sand blasted around the front quarters...beauty marks? I have the monster flaps on my truck...big rubber and stainless that hang with in about 3-4" of the ground, I guess I will give them a try first...then if necessary build the big one

i really do like the enkays. the basic truck flaps don't offer complete coverage so for me adding the nks do....after fitting i drove in the mud lookin for gaps in coverage, adjusted the nks to fine tune the gaps.

the flaps cosmotini links in the first post appear to mount, such that, no hitch/receiver mods are needed.....for the nk's the receiver must be longer or the bracket modified...others have posted photos and info on this modification.

i suspect the really large metal and rubber flaps wahoonc has, provide enough coverage, and adding another set would not be cost effective....given the trailer is already sandblasted down low....now if it was ever repaneled or traded for new......

there are several threads on rock tamers, mub flaps and so on, in the archive. lots of nice homebrew'd and tweaked versions.

here's the thread i like (i wonder why) and it does show how each set of flaps can "catch" different items (caution bad taste/humor ahead).....
