Tow Vehicle?

I am looking to purchase a TV that is from the 70 or 80's because I like the retro look. I cant seem to find what the tow capacity for those decades are. Does anyone use a truck from that era?

My 1972 Ford F-250, 390, auto....2 wheel drive..is 6000lbs...empty weight is 4000 lbs....tandem trailer gross load 11000 lbs...you can’t imagine how weak it is, compared to the new units.. especially my 17 ram

I use to have a '75 Dodge 3/4 ton with a 318 2 bbl, automatic & 4:10s. Pulled a 7000 lb 5th wheel. The truck did the job & never complained. Trucks back then were built for work, comfort was low on the priority list.

While you might like the look of 70's iron, you won't like the ride, hassles of carburation, poor electrical coils, points, loose steering, bad brakes and epicly bad mpg.........unless you're a masochist and like that kind of thing

I too loved the 70's look of a true convertible pre 75 Blazer, Dodge Ramcharger, IH Scout II (had one), or 70's short box 4x4 GMC; and have even contemplated buying a 1991 Suburban 4x4 and doing a Cummins swap.....then I wake up.

Be careful what you wish for, and in this case, never drive your heroes.

Cheers
Sidekick Tony

That's a huge compromise IMO for vanity. We all have our preferences. Just be ready to give up huge performance, reliability, comfort, safety...just about everything. For a retro look.

Probably okay for weekend camping. But for any serious traveling, I would think twice.

Don’t do it unless you know how to take care of them. Folks today don’t know how to use brakes without ABS or vehicles without traction control, and cheap gas ruins carburetors. Neglected vehicles get loose steering fromworn parts, and they overheat from lack of cooling system maintenance.

Look out for “cream puff” low mileage Grandpa trucks too. I’ve yet to find one that didn’t need a ton of work and upgrades to be reliable.
