Hello Folks;
My Sister recently picked up her new Hummer. It has a factory 2 inch receiver. Eventually I will get the Safari Hooked up and take it out for a test run. I have had the Hummer out on the highway and it is a brute ( built on Suburban 2500 chassis). With the big tires is does not handle like a sports car. It will however be great in the campsites being very capable of getting the bullet just about anywhere you might dare to venture. Will update in the Spring when we get it equiped.

Is your sister single? If she is please post a picture of the Hummer.

Down the street from me lives a member of our communities Bicycle Police Patrol. For many years they have been making due with an old beat up white 1975 Chevy van. It was really in sad shape. Our local car dealer just gave them a brand new Hummer H2. It is black in color. He just got it back from having it customized with all the Police equipment stuff installed. Radios, terminal, gun racks, first aid equipment....They lettered it with a light gray, hollow script font that is the coolest looking I have ever seen. Very subtle.

I think they will be able to respond to anything with this vehicle. You should see the smiles on their faces. Like kids at Christmas.

Man that is an awesome set-up! Any chance she has a bass boat too? Being that I am in the army and have driven the hummer many times, I can assure it will do the job but it does ride like a lumber wagon, at least ours do anyway.

Now you need to raise the A/S and put Hummer-size tires under it. Then you cound go anywhere. A dream set-up indeed.

That is a durable looking wheel/tire BUT what is the tow capacity? It amazes me that the Hummer is not rated better. It however, does weigh 6,000 plus lbs. on its own...

There is a bit of confusion in this thread between the new Hummer, which is a rebodied Suburban, and the military style Humvee, which is, well, a Humvee.

While the Hummer will have a tow rating in line with a Suburban, I suppose the Humvee can pull anything it wants, just not necessarily very fast.

GM Tow Rating on the H2 is 6700 and the real Humvee ( Hummer 1) is 8,000lbs max. The H2 is loosely based on the Suburban 2500 series. In stump pull mode no doubt it could pull Moe's 34'er and "all his extra gear" up the side of most mountains.

I had the H2 for a couple weeks. ( cause it wouldn't fit in my sisters underground parking garage) The H2 would be a great A/S hauler except for those oversized SUV tupe off road tires. On the highway the ride is comfy but not relaxing as the vehicle likes to wander. Put a normal tire on the beast and then it would be fine.

Will hook it up to our 23 in the Spring and post the "road test highlights".

Real Humvee ( Hummer 1) will tow 14.000lb.... I towed a rocket launcher around for 4 years!!!!!!!

Another thing,

The "real" (military) Humvees only came with a diesel engine.

( I had to throw that in there for all of those non-compression ignition fans)

Interesting. The military HumVee uses the 6.5 GM turbo diesels that were shyed away from by GM pickup truck owners. Apparantly the military thinks that is a great dependable engine. When they came out with the Duramax, they opted to stay with the 6.5 TD. Of, course being a military version, I am sure it is much more dependable than a civilian 6.5.

The military does not think (anymore) that the 6.5 diesel is a reliable engine but they do know that it was the lowest bidder that got them there. The mechanics in the army stay as busy as there civilian counterparts. Back then, deisel was cheaper then gasoline and the 6.5 wasn't really a bad engine yet. It's not that it's a terrible engine, but lacks power and is labor intensive (well, maybe that makes it bad) With all of that, I have still seen it tow just about anything you could imagine, just not 65 mph on the interstate. The Duramax is way too expensive for a fleet that size.
