Ford F-150 Number 1 in Sales Again
The Ford F-150 is again the number 1 sales champ in US auto sales including all types of vehicles. The article says that the F-150 beat all others by a "wide margin". There is a reason for this as there are many repeat buyers due to the 150's dependability and towing capacity.

Hi, pappy19; Did they actually say F-150? They usually say "F-series".

According to the AOL article I was referring to, the F-series (sorry about that but the picture was an F-150) sold over 63,000 vehicles just in the month of April 2014. I'm not sure which 12 month sequence they use to validate the "Number 1 " distinction. Most of the contractors that I deal with in the oil & gas industry are driving Fords. The comments from most just say that the Fords hold up better under the worst conditions. As a grocery getter, I expect it would be a toss up depending on your choices.

I suppose the F150 is best, but not true of the 3/4 and 1 ton class.

F150 is the worst seller around my place... we buy them and don't ever let them go.
I have 5 "F" series trucks here and the youngest is a 2003 with 230,000+ miles on it, the lowest mileage one is a 1996 F350 PSD, CC, DRW that only has 147,000 on it. The highest mileage is a toss up between the 1997 F150 and the 1996 4x4 F350, both have over 400k on them, odometer has been out on the F350 for 6 years, the one on the F150 still works. The other F is a 1978 F250, hasn't been run in a while. Big block gets bad mileage. We are going to be buying a new one in the next year or two.

The article I saw was on the AOL Welcome page 3 days ago, not 2008.

A matter of opinion, but the F-250-450 series is still the highest selling of the larger pickups.

This is always an interesting point of contention. Sometimes there is total truth in the "claim wars" and sometimes you have to analyze the statements closely. And sometimes it has nothing to do with consumer preference. Let me explain:
If Ford says they are the best selling truck...that is most of the time untrue and "cease and desist orders" are often issued. They are very often the best selling "brand" or "nameplate", due to the fact that Sierra and Silverado are the same "truck" but different "brands" and "nameplates.
Many times model changeover (as well as other factors) affects availability of various manufacturers product. For example, in 2014 GM had a redo of the half tons and ramp up for all cab configuration took months to get up to speed. In 2015, GM has the ramp up of the 2500s and 3500s and the same availability issues will be a sales factor. Ford will have the same issues with the wind down of the current model F150 and ramp up of the new aluminum model. That will be followed by the 250s and 350s in 2016 or 2017 (I forget when they redo the HDs). This activity has nothing to do with consumer preference and has always been the case during model changeover.
You also have to look at whether any claim covers a month, a quarter, or a model year(s). Mfr's use the most advantageous stat at any given time.
If you look at HDs only, you have to compare the markets in which each mfr competes. GM does not choose to play in the 450/550 market, so numbers are skewed unless you look at comparable model lines. For example, I foresee next year GM will be able to say that they have the best selling midsize pickup. (I look for great things out of the upcoming Colorado/Canyon) The implication is that it will be better than Ford (et.al), but Ford doesn't compete in that market.
You have to REALLY pay attention to marketing and advertising. Most of us are picking a particular model, series and shouldn't be influenced by broad "series" or "brand" or "nameplate" claims when developing our purchase decision. There may be strengths in a particular mfr's LD truckline and weaknesses in there HDs, for example.
Marketing is almost always not the whole story. 3rd party historical data and analysis are mostly much better than mfr claims.

GM once held 70 % of the market.
They had the world in their hands.... The trend is clear.
But nonetheless, the executives all got rich " managing decline".....
The new American way.

I found the following graphs in here:
Ford's F-150 Beats Chevy's Silverado Again
Seems the combined Silverado/Sierra numbers exceeds F150 for several years. In the past few years, F150 has been selling more than Silverado/Sierra combined though.

My F150 is hands down the best vehicle of any type I've ever owned.
Next month's payment is my last, and then I own it free and clear.
Never had a single repair.
Amazing...

Hi, not that it would make much difference, but I'm pretty sure that Ford never included Lincoln pick-ups either.

Owned a F-350 2011 4x4 crew cab SRW King Ranch diesel, 2013 4x4 crew cab King Ranch EcoBoost - nice trucks.
2013 Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins Mega Cab Laramie is like Ram took my two previous Fords and created one superior truck. Ride, build quality, drive train, electronics - Luv it all!

In 1990 I bought a Dodge Cumins with a Gertag 5 speed transmission. The transmission was junk and was known to be junk but Dodge wouldn't stand behind a very expensive repair.
I didn't really get too mad, I didn't throw a fit. But that was the last Chrysler product I ever bought. Probably something like 30 trucks since then where Dodge wasn't even a consideration.
Is 25 years too long to hold a grudge against a company?
