Inlet port on the water pump for 2012 FC

I am in the midst of winterizing and I want to add anti freeze through the water pump. I went looking for the water pump under the storage closet on the driver side and I think i found it but the FC booklet states you need to remove the heater hose. I cannot find where the hose is attached. I did unscrew the black line attached to the pump and attached a suction hose but that did not take in any antifreeze. Can some one tell me where I went wrong wrong.

Thanks

Find the pump filter.

In both of mine the suction line is on the side where the clear filter goes into the pump. I take the filter off and hook up the hose that is dropped into my jug of antifreeze. Works good... Good luck..

Not sure if it is the same on your model, but the filter is in-line. It is an upside down clear plastic cup on the suction line, just a few inches before the fitting that attaches to the pump.

Finding the filter is the easy way to tell the suction line from the pressure line.

The fittings have dog ears so you can unscrew them from the pump by hand. Unscrew the suction line from the pump, then screw on the fitting supplied with the winterizing kit.

Regarding the "heater hose" ...... maybe they are talking about the heating duct. On our Safari, I have to remove the heater flex duct from the grille panel and push it out of the way to access the water pump.

I went out and took off the heating duct to see if it was any easier, however, I was not able to find the inline filter so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I took a picture of the water pump with the connector off but I am not sure if this is the right connector.

OK. That pump is different than my 2006 which has the inlet and outlet on opposite sides of the pump.

One of those threaded connections in your picture is the suction side. If you have a hose like the one below, put one end in the bottle of antifreeze and screw the connector on one either the top or bottom male connector of the pump. One of those MUST be the suction side

Urnmor,

I took a picture of both of mine. Top one is the Bambi pump, looks a little different from the other, bottom is the '13 23'. Only real difference is that the filter on the '13 does not go directly into the pump. The line that the filters are in are the suction lines that come from the fresh water tank.

Your pump has 2 ports on the facing side and both mine have one on each side. Agree with others posters about the "heater hose". They mean the duct work, I had to take mine off also to hook up my antifreeze supply line. Not too bad cold tonight so if you happened to blow out your system you should be fine till you get it done.

My thanks to both of you. This is frustrating and should not be that hard.

I believe we have similar pumps. The picture I posted has the port disconnected. There is also a port on the other side but it is very tough to get to, I am not even sure how to disconnect the duct work but will look further tomorrow. I wonder If I can take off the bottom to the storage cabinet. that would certainly make it easier.

If there is a line coming in the other side of the pump that may be the suction side.

On mine, the suction line is on the outboard side of the pump and very difficult to get to unless I move the heating duct out of the way.

I remain very curious about the two male connectors on the same side of the shurflo pump in your picture. As I was just shopping for a new pump, I never saw such a pump in Shurflo's catalog.

I do not have two male connectors on the same side. It just appears that way in the picture. It is aactually the piece that goes into the male piece.

AhHa! So that picture has the line that you removed, sitting just below the male connector that you disconnected it from. You fooled me

The suction line is indeed on the other side. If you move the duct out of the way you'll be able to reach over and disconnect the suction line. You will also be able to locate the filter/strainer should you want to clean it one day.

The heating duct sorta unscrews from the plastic grille flange. It has a spiral wire in it that acts sorta like a thread on raised knobs on the grille flange. On mine, I pull/twist it off the grille and then push it behind and out of way of the pump.

As you are looking at the pump, reach over the top and then down. You should feel the intake line directly across the one that you see. Unscrew it and place your winterizing T in between the pump and the line. It may be easier if you unscrew the 4 screws holding the pump to the floor and reposition it after all lines are re-attached.

After Ilooked at the picture I saw how it looked liked it had to ports on one sid. I wish it was as that would have made it easy but hell who likes easy.

I do not have the T connector so I will unscrew the other port an attach my hose directly to it. That should work.

Again my thanks to all for the great assistance. Now if I can only get rid of the stink bugs

I tossed the tee valve that came with my winterizing kit. It made getting to the inlet port even more difficult.

However, I am planning to buy the flexible hose kit to quiet the pump noise, at which time a simple 1/2" pipe nipple might allow for a convenient place to put the winterizing tee.

25 FC water pump

Good discussion on the pump. I have a 2010 25FC and I've been curious about the pump location. It sounds like its under the far curb side corner of the bed. listening to your discussion sounds like its under the closet in front of the shower. Which is correct?
thanks,

Lou

I have an older 25 FB but I think they are the same. The pump is located under the closet to the left of the Shower. Below the closet is a door with a heat vent in the center. You can open this door, remove the heater duct and get at the pump.

I did all of this and realized that adding the "T" fitting for the antifreeze was going to be too much work for me, my aging joints and weak eyesight. I blow my system and have not had any troubles to date.

One of my early "I am getting older" messages came to me when I was under the dash of my truck trying to see something in the dim light with my bifocals. Man, did I ever get a sore neck that day.
