<Shot in the dark> entry door hinge
I know these are rare but i thought it's worth posting. I am looking for a hinge for the entry door. It has just rusted out and is not functioning. Got one sitting around that I could buy???
Thanks!

I know of a couple of others who would like the same hinge.....perhaps 6 of them.....if enough people would buy that hinge, perhaps someone would undertake the task of having them made......how much would you pay for it? pj

Making the hinge is easy.
Making the sleeve for the hinge pin, is the problem.
We previously checked into having them made.
Bottom line was each hinge would have to sell for about $150.00.
I felt that was not in line with what Airstream owners would be willing to pay.
Or, was I wrong?

yeah one of hinges snapped right where the hinge pin goes. I may try to clean it up today and see if a buddy of mine can weld that piece back on. yeah $150 would be a little over the top for a hinge. Also, i have been looking up hinge straps online and have found some luck at marine sites. Not the same but there a few that are close. A thought for those struggling to keep their doors on.

Check out this thread for someone who is having a new hinge made for his trailer (and possibly someone elses, too):
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f150...1-a-46195.html
Especially see posts 23, 26, 35-39, & 51.
I think there may be an opportunity here for someone that wants to go in the hinge busines.

Andy,
I think you are wrong. I had one set welded and chromed for $255 and I need another set. There is a fellow in Texas who has Silverstreak or Streamline hinges (I can't keep those two makes separate) for $150 each.

Benjo, as soon as I have my hinge back (hopefully Friday or Monday) I'll post photos of the machine work, and what it ended up costing. Machine shop here has a waterjet cutter, guessing if a small town here has one that most cities have shops with them. The initial set up is the most cost (them graphing the part for the computer) then the bending takes some time too, but particularly if you were getting a few sets made it would bring the overall cost down per pair.

they were just finishing up the large project today that was on deck when I dropped off the hinge. He hoped to get it done this afternoon or Monday, hoping my cell phone rings so I can get it on there this weekend, but if not Monday... Will post photos as soon as it gets home.

It would probably be best to call him or email him photos and get a written estimate from him. Mine was just for the body half the hinge, but the more difficult part (and the first one). Granted additional hinges of the same type would be less money because set up wouldn't be there. The materials were minimal, like 4 or 5 bucks.
Based on what we paid, I'd think he could do a complete hinge for $165 or so probably. PM if you want his contact info, you also might find a local machine shop with water jet cutting ability. We're not exactly a booming metro area.

Can you direct me to the ebay location for the large hinge pic you posted. I have 2 1954 FC's which use this type of hinge

i need the two other pieces for the door within a door hinge. i need the part that attaches to the screen door and the part that attaches to the side of the trailer. if anyone has those two pieces i would be interested in them.
FYI- it is for the bottom hinge that attaches on the right hand side of the trailer. thx!
