Please a little help with what I have here. 2000 Safari

Hi, Trying to find out what I have here before I go too far afield. New to me and first thing I needed to do was replace the "regular" Wallmart battery, it had been dry too long...probably boiled out.
I replaced it with a yellow top deep cycle. One for now but may want to add another.
Thinking I should replace the converter / charger. Before I do, need a little help on what I have.
PO did a lot of upgrades to interior, added audio / TV etc. May have upgraded but I'm not sure what I have...maybe you all can help. Thanks,

I can empathize with you on not knowing what you have in your trailer. I myself was searching through all my paperwork and manuals trying to find out what exactly was installed in my trailer.
The bottom line was I had to go out there and physically look at the thing to see what was actually installed. I am afraid that is probably your best bet. You may find that the previous owner had already done what you may be planning on doing.

Looks like the original mish mash of Airstream wiring, along with an original converter, minus, apparently the wooden cover that originally covered it all. The black box with the wires coming out is for your tail lights IIRC. The bar with the white wires is the ground. The bar to the right of the black box is a 12v + bus. Certainly an upgrade on the charger would be in order. And I'd certainly build some kind of box to cover it all.

Here's my '99 Safari electrical area with a newer converter in the middle, an inverter on the end, and the original cover box. I mounted my inverter and converter on the wall rather than the floor.

Your photos aren't very clear but that bottom box looks like an inverter and not a converter. My inverter (converts 12vdc to 115AC) sits alone near the front of the AS. The converter sits amidships, next to the AC panel with the breakers and has all of the 12vdc connections from the inside.

It's best to get the information off the labels on the boxes, that will tell you what you have. Get the brand and model numbers.

What have is a mess. Clean up the excess wires, new converter ,and you should be good to go.
I had to do the same thing on my 80 caravelle.

That last picture is the original Parallax converter. I took one out of my 2001 Safari 25 and replaced it with a Progressive Dynamics PD-9260. Get the model number off of yours and call Randy at Best Converter or get in touch with Lew (Lewster on here) and tell them what you've got and what you plan to do. They will make some recommendations for your consideration.

Al

That is clearly the Parallax 7455. It's a single stage and not going to do any favors for your new yellow top. I'd consider the 4 stage Boondocker 1260C. Let me know if you need help.
