I would like to know from those of you who bought awnings what your color choices were and why. Do darker awnings give more shade? Do they get hotter underneath? Do some colors hide dirt better than others?
Would a busy looking awning detract from a nicely polished trailer?
We're getting ready to pick a color for the zip-dee we want for the 1963 Overlander, and want some final input on the color choices others made.
We love our "Pacific Blue Fancy" from Zip Dee
We picked from the color swatches. After we went to a few rallies, we found out that this is a widely used pattern on Airstreams.
As far as shade, I don't think that it matters.
Good luck!

Ours came with a solid very dark blue. I like it but it does show dirt easily and requires a lot of cleaning effort at roll up and roll out. Other than that it works just fine.

Go to a marina. Most of the sail covers you'll see (95%) are blue Sunbrella. Look at the remaining 5% and you'll see why. That said. your awning isn't going to see a 1/10 the abuse of a sail cover that is out in the elements 365 days a year (and they last 10 years or more). Our brown/orange/white striped original on our '78 is still in good shape. It wouldn't be my first choice if we were buying new but one advantage of the strips is it makes it easier for a newbie like me to get it rolled back up straight
I think there's enough airflow that the fabric color won't make a noticable difference. So, what ever color you like should provide the same level of service.
Our '06 came with charcoal colored gray or something like that. Don't know if it shows dirt less or if it shades better or looks good with mirror shine or why Airstream chose that color.

That was our second choice. We're ordering the stripes simply because they look more appropriate on a vintage unit.

You will not regret your choice of colors. Our black and white awning has adorned the side of Chummy providing shade (when it works, it's an A&E) for almost twenty five years. The colors still look good even after camping deep in the woods for a month with the awning out the whole time. It cleans right up and looks great. When my piggy bank is full again and this A&E disaster is replaced with a Zip Dee the only thing that will stay the dame is the color- black and white stripe.
