Cleaning your Rock Guard

Hey All,

How do you clean and protect the rock guard on the front of your AS?
We used Walbernize on the rest of the exterior, but it didn't work well on the rock guards for some reason. Thanks for any tips.

We used a lot of stainless steel polish/cleaner when I worked at the brewery, wipe on, buff off. I would look in the cleaner/polish section of hardware, grocery, restaurant suppliers.
Looks as good as WD 40 pix^^

The stainless steel cleaner that is used for appliances. Don't use auto wax. It gets stuck in the brushed finish and looks terrible and is hard to get off.

Barkeepers Friend is the Airstreamers Friend here. I had some unknown crud on there that other stuff didn't want to work on -- 5 minutes with BF and a scrubby was all it took. Now protecting-- what do you recommend for that?

I read this somewhere else on the forum and followed the advice given - use stainless cleaner. I am not sure that you need to protect stainless. Just keep it clean.

WD 40 works for us and it also makes bug removal a lot easier.

The non liquid Barkeepers Friend worked by far the best at removing rust like dirt all over the segment protectors following one winter trip. I tried all kinds of other things.

Thanks!

Doesn't it attract dust...like when on gravel road?

I wash with a good auto cleaner like Meguiars, dry, then wipe with Weiman stainless steel wipes. These can be found at grocery chains and walmart.

Those stainless steel wipes are nothing more than mineral oil wipes.

Yes. But I also attest that they work great. Give them a try!

I guess I should have said a bottle of mineral oil is a dollar and a paper towel is. 01$

Have you priced mineral oil lately? It's gone crazy in recent years.

edit: that's mineral spirits I'm thinking of...carry on

This might be a stupid question - But does anyone use WD40 to clean not just the rock guards but complete exterior? I used it a little on a small area and it seemed to clean the Alum very well, I'm just concerned about using it and then wishing I had not.

Any input would be great

Thanks

Doug

Not silly....
Petroleum based products and vinyls, plastics, and rubber don't play well! Try silicone if you want a shine!
WD40 is a light oil film.
