Refrigerator keeps freezing. Please Help!!

I have a Dometic Elite in my '96 Excella that freezes everything even when set on 1. I will set it on 1 and most of the time it will reset to 3. I have even moved that little plastic thing up and down on the coils and that has done nothing. Does anybody have any idea of what might be the cause or better yet a solution?

The little plastic thing you're referring to holds the thermistor within it. I suspect the thermistor has gone bad. Try completely removing it off the fin and letting it hang loose. If the fridge changes temp either warmer or colder, that may be a sign it's working and something else is wrong (such as control board). A new thermistor is about $45, A new control board is about $100.

Fridge too cold

If the part doesn't do it, try searching for "snip the tip." They sell a little correction kit that worked for me.

16 hours since I installed the new thermistor and nothing is frozen!! The new part just might have solved the problem.... Knock on wood. Thanks again for the help!

Glad to hear it seems to be fixed. Another little tip that I like, is to buy an indoor-outdoor thermometer and place the outdoor sensor inside the fridge with the indoor monitor outside. You can then keep an eye on the fridge temp without having to open the door to look at a thermometer. I hang mine on the wall just outside the fridge so I can see it as I walk by.

That little plastic thing is called a thermistor. If it is freezing on gas and electric, the thermistor is most likely suspect. I would start with that. Should take care of the problem. Larry

Well, all was good for a few days and now things have gone south. The check light comes on and the unit does not cool at all. I have tried running it on gas only and that does not help. I'm at a lost and I don't want to bring it to a rv shop and ha e them try and sell me a new refrigerator. Any thoughts of what might be going on?

Unplug all. Reseat connectors and apply power. Same? Board died. Make sure you have proper 12 VDC before worrying too much.
