Door latch/lock for 1969 Overlander
Hi all. I am from Alberta, Canada and we have just purchased a 1969 Overlander International. It is in not bad shape. We cleaned it, checked to make sure rubber, axles, lights were in order, (they were) and took her on her maiden voyage. Great fun. Beautiful trailers. However, there is no door handle, latch on it. Just a hole. After researching it I have discovered I need help. At first I thought a Bargman L-300 was correct and now it looks like it is a Bargman L-100. Does anyone know for sure and also where, preferably in Canada I can get a replacement? I am also sure we will have many questions on our renovation adventure.

I believe you have the hard to find expensive KT latch. Inland RV used to sell a kit to replace it with a newer style latch

Thank you for the response. I was starting to wonder about that. Most unfortunate.

We have three different locks that were still in our trailer when we brought her home. Apparently the PO didn't know which one was correct.

All of the Bargman locks were discontinued about 2 years ago.
There is a lock kit available, that has the extended striker bolt that replaces the Bargman L-100 and L-200 locks.
Part of the issue is the cast door frame.

At least some '69 trailers still used the L100 or L200 style lock (I don't know the difference between the 2 models of lock, they look similar in photos.)
If what's in the outer skin door is "just a hole" as in a squarish hole that's not too huge, your trailer probably came with something like the L100. If your trailer came with the KT latch, the hole would have to be rectangular and fairly large, as you can see in this photo of an Argosy with a KT latch:
Reconditioned L100/L200 locks are listed at Vintage Trailer Supply, but they ain't cheap at $230!

Reconditioned locks are always "iffy".
Especially when they are not available.
The lock kit is new current production parts.

Hey Andy. What kind of measurements do you need in order for me to order the correct lock? Do you ship to Canada? And what sort of price am I looking at?

Please be advised that the above company has nothing to do with Inland RV Center, in Corona.
We disclaim any kind of relationship wth them.

All we need is the trailer serial number to confirm the year.

Hello, I just purchased a 1969 sovereign with the same problem. I took the latch out and took it to a lock and key shop. They put a new door spindle in it with a shim to make sure it was centered. I used a glass door Knob with a set screw on the inside. I had to drill a hole in the spindle behind for a cotter pin the inside plate for a cotter pin to keep it from pulling out. But it looks cool and works great. About 20 bucks.

Rebuilding an old lock, is some what OK.
But, since they would be 40 years old or so, they should be replaced.
Why????
When the rebuilt lock fails, the trailer most likely will be on a trip, and not in your front yard.
Then, you have even more trouble.
Best to be safe and secure, not sorry and unsecure.

Your Airstream is a 1969 model and would use the lock kit # 22320.
