Can one convert a 34' rear twin 1990 Limited model to a queen bed? If you have done this, please describe your experience.

I replaced rear twin beds in a 1984 31' Excella with a king size bed (oriented cross wise). The rear bedroom is now wall to wall mattress but for my 265 lb., 6'4" frame it is wonderful to sleep on for one or two people. The mattress sits on a metal top frame that is hinged at the aft end to allow access to storage under the bed. I have not perfected a gas pressure strut lifting mechanism but use a simple rope and block and tackle attached to the bulkhead wall and bed frame. The bed frame was from IKEA (metal with wooden slats).
A queen bed installation should be easier and allow a walkway, although limited, on either side.

Check the length of the bed and the available space between the rear wall and the bath/wardrobe walls. I don't think there will be enough room to walk around the bed. Only choice will probably br installing the bed crosswise.

I replaced the twin set up in my 1984 34'. I went to Big Sur and purchased a couple of underdressers for a waterbed, attached them to the floor and then screwed a piece of 3/8 plywood on top of the dresser frame, then added the mattress. Works great and has for the last 12 years.

This was one of the first things I did with ours. I went with an RV queen pillowtop mattress, which allowed me to keep the head oriented towards the back of the trailer. I have the two rear side storage compartments, so when I constructed the box for the mattress, I took the opportunity to enlarge these slightly. This also made the mattress sit slightly higher overall, but that was no big deal.

Interesting! I've got the rear Queen and would love to have twins like I had in several of my past rigs. My dilemma would be - what to do with the rear outside hatch? Perhaps an elongated nightstand with a hinged lid would suffice. I'd sure hate to give up all that outside accessible storage.
