Anyone driven from NY to Jackson Ctr?

Hello,

Anyone have experience driving from eastern New York State to the service center in Jackson Center? I need repairs done to my 2003 CCD and after bad experiences with 2 dealers in NY and MA I've decided that there really are no decent and trustworthy repair facilities in the northeast, so I'm thinking about making the trip to Ohio. They are so nice on the phone, not surly, or short with you as in the dealers I've been to. I'd like to think that at Jackson Center they at least care about my CCD as much as I do.

Any routes to avoid, or "must sees" on the way?

I really appreciate any advice.

You could use the Google or MapQuest service for routing a trip.
For a quickie, I typed in your addy and, Jackson Center, Oh.. It came up to 666 miles and, abit over 12hrs of driving.. direct as they come.

I drove from Harrisburg, PA to Jackson Center using I-80 which would be your most direct route. There are some rough stretches on I-80 and the last few miles to Jackson Center were 2-lane roads, but the balance of the trip was on fairly good limited access roads. I was solo and my only nervous moments were getting through Akron with all the truck traffic. There is no straight way through that city and the traffic was heavy enough that I had to remember all the turns.

At one point in Akron, I took an exit just to check the map. I pulled into a parking lot behind a building to turn around and was surrounded by tough-looking teen agers. Turned out that I had picked a municipal lot where, apparently, some work-release folks were waiting for a bus to take them to work. I was glad my doors automatically lock.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunatley, I've had to also go to Jackson Center about 5 times in the past 22 months. My wife and I just returned from there today.

The most direct route there from our home in SE PA is across the PA Turnpike, then down through Wheeling, WV and on to Columbus, OH (500 miles to JC, OH), but we've also gone across I-80 a couple of times.

I don't know if you'd want to come down and go across I-80, but if you do you may wish to stop for the night at the Penn Wood Airstream Park,which is located 4 miles south of Interstate I-80, Exit 64, near Clarion, PA. We've stopped there a couple times en route to the factory, and it's a good half-way (more-or-less) stop-off point for us.

i'm from mass. originally and live in fort wayne, in. not to far from jackson ctr.
i make this trip no less than twice a year the past 15yrs+ the best way i've found from say the albany area is 90w to ohio. or from binghhamton, ny 86w which is old 17. that is very scenic along the pa border thru corning under the finger lakes watkins glen and the zippo museum.

86w will take you out onto 90w to ohio also. when you get before cleveland start looking for 271s express to 71s to mansfield, ohio. then 30w to lima,ohio which is just north of jackson ctr. this road is brand new 4 lane except for about 30mi. which should be done this summer in rural area. this way saves me about 40min. going under cleveland and no tolls.

A nice stop on the way would be the Kinzua Dam in the Allegheny National Forest. Lots of good camping there. It is on/near the NY/PA border, about 70 miles east of Erie, PA.

I87 to I 90 to I90/80 to I75 State Rt 274 east right to the factory. 11 hours. Doable in one day with two drivers. Camping right at the factory in the terraport. Avoid Cleveland during rushhour.

We drive to SW CT from Louisville twice a year. I would stay on 80 then either come down through Akron to Columbus and over to JC on 70 or go over the top of OH and down.

I personally think the roads and traffic are easier through Columbus.

We used to take 70 through Wheeling but like the easier drive on 80. The lack of tolls is a bonus ($37 each way in the motorhome with the toad on 70)

BTW - my wife's family used to have a place in Windham. Still one of her favorite places on the planet.

We typically camp about halfway (in our case that's Youngstown) but with two driver and an early start you could make it in one.

I took my MoHo up to JC for a window replacement after interviewing three AS dealers, none of whom either demonstrated the knowledge or had the tools to complete the job. I arrived that morning, they worked on the coach within an hour of my arrival and I was on my way that afternoon. It was a pleasure working with JC and the tech who worked on my unit talked me through everything he did. He started there 30 years ago and replaced my window in about twenty minutes.

The final bill was even less than the original estimate.

I've made the trip MANY times from Long Island and my favorite route is 80 to the start of Ohio then come down and across on ??? (don't have a map at work!) I HATE the PA Turnpike as it is very narrow and bumpy!!!! Plus, if you need to make a stop at Camping World it is on the way!

If you are taking I80, the Pennwood Airstream Park is about 45 minutes east of I79.

i would avoid i75. it is a heavily traveled road for commercial vehicles. lots of traffic.
