Can I remove old brakes?

In removing my wheel to repack the bearings I fouund the break assembly broken. Can I remove the old brakes and reassemble the hubs and wheels and pull the trailer a short distance? Or is it designed to only go together with the break parts attached? I am just looking for a quick fix to move the trailer around my farm and to a local shop to have the new axels installed in weeks to come...Z.

I don't see why you can not remove the brakes. The drum will go back on even if there is nothing inside. The only problem is you will have no brakes...

Yes. Just be sure to remove EVERYTHING (springs, linkages, magnets, etc.) before re-mounting the drum.

Obviously you will have no brakes at the wheel, but for a low-speed trip to the mechanic you can do it.

I towed our 20 footer from Hendersonville, NC to Statesville, NC without brakes (at night, in the rain, up and over the Eastern Continental Divide). We lived to tell the tale, but I wouldn't do it again! For something local, you shouldn't have any problems...
