Bolt on Shock Brackets?
Has anyone ever made and tried bolt on shock brackets before? I still need to weld mine into my axles, and I was wondering if bolt on brackets could be an option? My thought was welding the shock brackets onto a shackle and bolting it down?

To answer your question again in this thread, the answer is no, no one makes bolt on shock brackets for Airstream travel trailers. You either weld them on, or you don't have them.

Perhaps a couple of holes could be drilled into the shock bracket and then mounted on the outside of the torsion arm, with bolts.
But driilling into the torsion arm, might weaken it and I am sure void any warranty.

Not only that, the force of the shock in service against the shock mounting bracket may break the shock mounting bolts.
Welding would be your friend if you want to mount shock absorbers.

I would be more inclined to build a shock bracket that would fasten to the bolts that hold the backing plate to the axle. Rather than trying to bolt to the torsion arm itself.
A bracket bolted to the axle could be made in such a manner that it rests on the torsion arm and is held in place by the bolts. With it being in contact with the torsion arm there would be no risk of shearing the bolts. Food for thought.

Monroe makes a torsion axle shock mounting kit. Haven't done any research as to the fit but it's at least something you could look at....

Those kits were discontinued in 2007.

I used the Monroe kit. It works great for attaching the top of the shock to the frame.
It wouldn't work at all for attaching the lower shock end to the axle.

It appears that they were used for leaf spring axles where a couple of "U" bolts hold a plate and shock mount to the axle.

Yea that was kinda what I was thinking about. If no one has done it in the past, my guess is that it was tried and failed. I think I'll just have to suck it up and weld them on.

Yeah, sometimes you just have to do that when it comes to some Airstream stuff.
