One New Refrigerator Please

Would like to update the refrigerator in my 68 Safari, Ok, so I have narrowed it down to either a Dometic RM 2551, which is 42 5/8" tall; or a Dometic DM 2652, which is 53 3/4" tall.

Here is the question, has anyone put either on of these refrigerator into their remodel of a 68 or therabouts Safari?

Wife would really like the two door DM 2652, but I am not sure it would fit due to the curvature of the outside wall.

Help, I only want to buy one !!!!!!

Let me start by saying this is *NOT* something I've done before, so just treat it as a thought experiment I'm doing.

The walls curve outward for a distance before they start curving inwards, no? So the base of the refrigerator will be on the floor at or near the intersection of the wall and floor. At what height does the wall curve inward enough to break a vertical plane extending upwards from that intersection? As long as that height is more than 54" above the floor, if you have room for the base of the refrigerator to fit into your cabinetry it should work out right. In my '75 Argosy there's a fair amount of room behind the old Dometic.

The plan is to rebuild the cabinetry to fit around new refrigerator, what I am worried about is how far out into the walkway will the desired DM 2652 stick out.

I can put it there on the floor, but no one will be happy if it obstructs travel.

Thank you for the information, I will probably make a mock up out of cardboard for test fit.

Both of those refrigerators have a minimum depth of 24", plus 11/16" protrusion forward from the recess on the 2551, or 2 1/32" for the 2652. So you'll give up a little over an inch more walkway space at some height above the floor (it may just be the handles that stick out that far, for example. It looks like the 2652 has bigger handles in photos.)

A template is definitely a good way to go.

I have a 68, ambassador my fridge is 56" tall fits under the cabinet no problem.. It was directly on the floor but I raised it up on a 2x4 to get it a little higher.

We went with the RM2551 in our '68 Overlander but the wife says she wanted the two door model.

Thank you for you're response, that's what I really wanted, People's experience with the same problem.

What the wife wants plays a big part of what we do.
