Roadside Assistance offers

I've received several offers for "roadside assistance" plans and would like some feedback on the experience you have had and who may be the best provider. Good Sam Club has sent the most mail.

We use Allstate. Had a blowout in a remote area once and no phone service. Sheriff came along and patched our call through and a half hour later a tire service came and fixed us up. Know that all the Roadside Assistance people use the same tire services. We like Allstate because you get a KOA membership too.

We use AAA Plus RV.

We use the Good Sam service and have been pleased with the service when we have needed it.

I am pretty sure your new trailer came with a roadside assistance plan through a company called Coachnet. If it did, you can toss the junk mail, at least for the first two years of ownership.

we use AAA too. not much of an additional annual cost to the plus coverage we already had.

they were no less than excellent in September 2012, late on a Friday nite with a tire problem on the motorhome in Southern California,

and just fine with a rush-hour tow (not the TT or TV or motorhome, just one of our cars) here in NJ in November 2014.

I've had them all, Alstate, Good Sam, AAA, and FarmBureau. They all use the same tow outfits, so pick the cheapest one. Actually, the Arizona Highway Patrol is the best. My TV had a flat near Tucson and I called Good Sam. The AHP stopped about an hour after I had called Good Sam and we had the new tire on in about 30 minutes. I left and an hour later I got a call from the tow company wanting to know where I was located. I told them I got it fixed myself. I had another flat on my AS in the middle of Utah and that was a AAA call. Took them almost 2 hours to get there and the tow truck driver had to use my socket to get the lug nuts off. That's when I discovered the AS lug nuts were crap, they had a SS cover over a metric nut. I changed them all out to solid lug nuts after that. regardless of which out fit you decide on. I carry one where ever I go, with or without my TV just in case I run across some poor fool with a flat on their SOB or AS.

My auto insurance policy comes with roadside service. Should I still look for a 3rd party service?

As someone pointed out with a 2015 AS from a dealer you have two years of Coach-Net at no additional charge. If there are two owners you will or should have received a brochure which included two owners cards for the service with your member number and expiration date.

AAA-plus let me down in a huge way after carrying them (never needed them) for 20 years. I was stranded in NAPA, in town, with a Class C with a gone transmission, they wanted to send a truck from the other side of the mountains, in the middle of nowhere, to take me back there to a place that did NOT work on truck transmissions. They argued about it. I found an RV tow truck on my own (10 minutes) who would take me to a transmission place 15 (flat) miles away. AAA plus would not honor it, it was not one of their contracted towers (and btw, they had nothing suitable to haul my class c). I paid cash to go to the right place (subsequently getting it back from AAA after much paperwork).

Ditched AAA, went with Coach.net, needed them for an AS flat. Came through for me, class act, had Les Schwab (west coast tire people) come out, I was back on the road within an hour with a new tire.

If you're looking for experience, that's mine.

My standard Progressive policy for my Airstream covers both the trailer and the tow vehicle when towing (even though the tow vehicle has AAA). If the tow vehicle is disabled they will tow both vehicles. Never had to use it but really don't see the need to carry Good Sam or the AAA plus RV insurance (which itself is not good in all 48 states).
