Carry...oh yeah...well most of those come with an optional wheel kit for trailering...carry is a taurus titainium 7 shot 357. Most of my needs are copperhead control and peace of mind from an exploding black bear population. the ported barrel helps muzzel flip...but is sure rough on the ears!

Yea, that's a heck of a machine. I like how the "finest" is in quotes, as others have improvised a word for "finest"

Continuing off-topic: There are SO many problems with folks carrying guns, and these are, of course, two that aren't not frequently considered.
There are a number of things I really like about the .45ACP; one of which is the incredible knock-down power for a handgun round... over it's hundred year history, it's logged something over 99% one-shot-stops, yet is controllable by all but the smallest hands.
I have authorized both .40 and .45ACP for my officers, but I'm the only one in my department who currently caries a .45ACP. I'm pleased to see more law enforcement departments re-authorizing the .45ACP. I hope that soon we'll all be carrying phasers set to 'stun', although I suppose that an Airstream aluminum interior would reflect the beam like a house of mirrors and be worse than the noise of a gun discharge in a tube...
Back on topic: I haven't heard whether Chris Deam ever saw his 16' custom CCD again.

New Taurus
Held in my hand yesterday the new Taurus modeled after the 1911 Colt. It feels smaller and better balanced than the colt. the price was about $600.00.
I currently carry a Taurus Millenium 9mm and am not too fond of it, but it is the safest pistol I have ever owned as it is double action only.
What I really want is a Kimber pro conceal 40 cal., but they are hard to come by.

I have been curious how many permit holders there were. How nice to see this thread.I very seldom leave home without it,I will be installing a lock box in the A/S before our 1st trip. When traveling I always check state and local firearm laws for proper transporting regulations.

I find my most favorite carry gun is a customized Walther PPKS. Had extensive work done to the front and rear straps, custom Rose Wood grips, new hammer and trigger with the pull reduced. Always load with Silver Points. Glad to say it has always stayed in the holster!
Always had the Mossberg S/S short barrel shotguns on our boats. Might put one in the AS. Less legal hassell when out of state.

Smith and Wesson, 38 Police special. Sorry I never thought to take a picture of it. Have a concealed carry permit too. Sometimes forget to take it with me so I guess it's not that helpful. I do take a 6 lb nasty Pomeranian.

A different perspective
This has been an interesting discussion. Mostly it deals with self defense, which was the original question in the string, but it did stray into other aspects of gun ownership.
I'm new to gun ownership, having just inherited my Dad's Vietnam-era .357 Magnum. But I've been around guns a lot, and have since bought one or two for target practice and varmint control.
In my research, I came across an interesting website written by a gentleman named Chuck Hawks. He has a lot of info about specific guns, but occasionally (actually, rarely) editorializes.
Below is a quote from one of his editorials. Because he has strong feelings about certain political leaders (which you can read in the following link if you want Just Say NO to Gun Registration ) I'll not include that part here because I don't want to offend anybody.
Its his historical perspective on having an armed population that really interested me. I'd never thought of it this way, and realize that we as a population have moved past thinking this way - for right or wrong!
Here's the quote from his editorial about the second amendment:
Quote:
Our Founding Fathers were coming at the issue from the other side: their goal was to protect the individual freedoms they had risked so much to secure. They realized that only an armed populace could guarantee the continuation of a free society. They had the foresight to see that someday the Federal Government that they were reluctantly creating might itself threaten the very freedoms it was established to protect. That is why they guaranteed in the Second Amendment the individual right of the people to maintain (own) and bear (carry) arms (guns).
It is no accident that the Fathers placed the right to maintain and bear arms (which became the Second Amendment) right after the First Amendment (which guarantees the most basic human rights), and before the other eight Amendments in the Bill of Rights. They regarded it as the second most important right, the guarantor of all other rights.
This is clear to anyone who has read the Federalist Papers (written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison). The Second Amendment was primarily intended to guarantee that the people could defend the First and all subsequent Amendments in the Bill of Rights against the intrusion of the federal government, should it ever become necessary. That is a responsibility that still rests upon the shoulders of all law abiding gun owners today.
|
Again, I said I found it interesting, I'm not a 100% believer. Taken to extreme, this thought process leads to the secret militia and events like Waco, TX. But on the other hand, I can understand how 60-million quiet law-abiding armed adults can act as a strong counterbalance to any government.
Oh yeah... yes, we bring a gun when we camp. We sometimes boondock way way out in the wild, and like the security.

I'm amazed that this thread was resurrected after lying dormant for nearly three years... it's interesting to hear the really strong views of folks on both sides of the issue.
I'm not one who's shy, but I try to support my thoughts with logical foundations. In this case, I think the author is absolutely correct. You have to remember that we today consider the signers of the Declaration of Independence as Patriots and forward-looking free thinkers. The Crown, King George and his government, considered them criminals who committed treason and fomented insurrection. Fewer than half the colonists supported independence for the Colonies.
History is written by the winners.
