Moving up and maneuvering
Hi all,
Seriously considering moving from our 16 to a 23. One question I can't find the answer to: we often pull into a supermarket parking lot (TV Yukon XL, Equal-I-Zer) and park in two spots. No problem getting in or out and turning the corner at the end of the rows. Is it still possible with a 23?
Thanks in advance.

I had my 23 for 3 years. I don't think that will work. I just parked out a little farther. The 23 is a little wider.
Better to walk a few more steps for piece of mind. (no dent)

DW requires parking any of our vehicles far from others to reduce the opportunity to collect dents. We need the exercise anyway...

We have a f150 TV and a 25’ Classic. That we have over 40,000 miles on and try to have a problem getting in and out of parking lots. Just be sure to park in the outer spaces and look before driving in. Walmart, large shopping centers are not a problem.

Thanks. Pulled the trigger today. Lordy it's bigger than "The Bean". Sad to see it go but bigger adventures await

We stopped for groceries in upstate NY last year and had a note on our window about having to take up 11 spaces. Oh well, gotta do what we gotta do with a 30' Airstream. And we were as far out as we could have been.

The note’s author was suffering from “silver envy.” Glad you didn’t let it get under your skin.

Last time I took up a bunch of spaces we got asked bunched if questions about the Airstream and got a few requests for a tour. Had to turn that down because the dogs “own” their Airstream...

Congrats leedav. I think you'll find that a 23' is very manageable, even coming from a 16'. You won't be able to fit in 2 sequential spaces anymore, but I've always been able to find space when needed.
I'm wholly comfortable going anywhere and any parking lot in my 28' Part of that is because I have a great and maneuverable tow vehicle. Yes, there's more length, but it all generally follows pretty obediently behind, even if needing to make u-turns.

I tow an FC26U with a Tundra Crew Cab and have no problems in grocery store parking lots. I don't park up close to the store and maneuver wide turns at the end of the row.
Here I am in a Kroger parking lot in Maumelle, AR. Easy in, easy out. Just take care. 👍🏼

Hi
One thing that pulling the AS into the grocery lot is sure to do is attract rubberneckers. Some of them may also be AS owners ....
With care a 30' can make it through most large store retail parking lots.

One thing I do is park at the end of a row with the rear end parked so no one can slip in behind me. Then, when it comes time to leave, you can back up to make front end room to turn out. One time some lady pulled right in front of me blocking my exit. When I asked her to let me out by backing up she acted like she had just landed from another planet. I guess it takes all kinds.

Moving up and maneuvering
On the road, believe me you meet all kinds.
I tend to see what my dogs act like when someone approaches. If the pups are cool with someone, they are usually ok people. If the dogs don’t stop barking at some stranger, I figure the pups have detected something a bit off. I am much more cautious in that case.
Small children are every bit as good at reading people.

I’d go with the dogs’ reactions.
I have had similar experiences. Most all dogs like me, cats most of the time, humans, not always by any means.

We’ve an F250 TV and a 25’ Airstream. If we need to shop while hitched, we look for a larger shopping center and try to take up 2 (actually 4) marked spaces somewhere on the perimeter. A couple of times we tried the horizontal approach only to have a car park in the space right in front of us. That was “interesting.”

With our 25’ pulled by a F-150 I carry a collapsable orange traffic cone in the cab. When we park in a parking lot I put the cone in the space in front of us so somebody won’t absentmindedly park there.
